On Friday, March 28, The Carleton hosted an evening of storytelling as Fredericton’s Kylie Fox brought her There Are Only So Many Great Nights Tour to Halifax. Sharing the stage with Julia Cunningham, and Darren Roy Clarke, Fox and her band delivered a performance full of warmth, humour, and charm.

Ontario singer-songwriter Darren Roy Clarke opened the night with his rich voice and compelling storytelling, immediately drawing the audience in. A founding member of the country group The Stables, Clarke’s seasoned presence set the tone for the evening.

Next up was local Haligonian Julia Cunningham, who left a lasting impression and proved herself a rising talent in the scene. Her set featured Dive Deep, the title track from her debut EP released just two years ago, along with her latest release, Sea Legs.

Then, folk songstress Kylie Fox took the stage, joined by her band—all dressed in purple, with a matching quilt hanging behind them. She captivated the crowd with songs like Hit, Confetti, Flush, and the brand-new Biking with My Baby. Throughout the night, Fox’s vocals soared—sometimes delicate, as in Avocado, a witty take on having a baby, and at other times commanding, like in Brandi Baby. Her band’s tight musicianship brought each song to life, perfectly complementing her charismatic performance. Amplify Magazine describes her presence as “invigorating,” and the night certainly lived up to that praise. Fans of Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile would have felt right at home.

With upcoming April stops in Saint John, Moncton, Charlottetown, and Truro, Kylie Fox’s tour continues to gain momentum. Those lucky enough to be at The Carleton experienced an unforgettable night of storytelling, connection, and musical magic.
