Killswitch Engage, Kublai Khan TX, Fit for a King, Frozen Soul

Killswitch Engage brought a devastating set of opening acts with them on their only Alberta stop of the tour for their new album This Consequence.
Opening up, three bands were from Texas – Frozen Soul, Fit for a King, and Kublai Khan TX.
Frozen Soul started off the night with a blistering 25-minute set.. these guys may be relatively new, but they’re tight as fuck, and a ton of fun. They deliver their take on Death Metal with the ferocity of seasoned veterans.
Fit for a King took the stage next, and man of man, I was not prepared for the crushing set these guys descended on our earholes. Barrelling out a 10-song set, they held my attention the entire time. I’m looking forward to catching these guys again!
I’m no stranger to Kublai Khan TX, having seen them a couple times before; but this felt different. They were an absolute standout – the crowd knew damn near every word, and watching the crowd do the “Monkey See; Monkey Do” callback at the beginning of “Theory of Mind” just set the tone for the entire set. The energy was off the charts. Crowd surfers, circle pits, all the fixing for a solid set – I was just wide-eyed most of the set. Soooo good.
Finally, Killswitch unleashed hell – the perfect cap to the insane show the 3 openers had tee’d up.. They were perfection. I’ve been a fan for a long time – the setlist was spot on, mixing old and new, with 4 songs from their newest album, and the rest spanning their entire discography. Classics like “Fixation on The Darkness”, “Rose of Sharyn”, and “My Curse”, blended with newer stuff like “Hate by Design”, and “Beyond The Flames”.. I could probably go on and on. To finally be able to hear “The Signal Fire” live, was an absolute highlight for me.
The light show was absolutely phenomenal, and there are very few bands as tight as KSE.
This show was just mind blowing from start to finish, and I am so glad I got to cover it. HUGE thanks to MRG Live for having me out!
