On March 21, Irish-Scottish rock band Snow Patrol kicked off their North American Tour at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, BC.
Fellow Irish singer-songwriter Sorcha Richardson opened the night.
Snow Patrol’s show was basked in nostalgia, but it was also a reminder that they’re far from just a greatest-hits band. From the moment they opened with “Take Back The City,” the energy in the room was electric, proving that their music still resonates deeply with fans.
Gary Lightbody, ever the charismatic frontman, balanced humour and humility as he introduced songs from their latest album,The Forest Is The Path. They played fresh material, but it was the classics that truly ignited the night—“Shut Your Eyes” had everyone singing, “Run” turned into a euphoric moment, and, of course, “Chasing Cars” was met with roaring singing.
A standout moment came with “Set the Fire to the Third Bar,” where a virtual Martha Wainwright appeared on screen in a beautifully executed duet. It felt intimate, despite the size of the theatre. The visuals, drenched in autumnal hues, tied into the band’s latest album aesthetic, reinforcing that Snow Patrol still have something new to say.
By the time they closed with “Just Say Yes,” the audience was completely immersed in the moment. Snow Patrol’s staying power isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about evolution, and this show was proof that they’re still a force to be reckoned with.
