After an epic hometown show at Toronto’s History on Valentine’s Day, we had to get another dose of Silverstein last night, this time in Montreal! Despite the impending snow storm, Olympia was packed to the brim for the band’s last date of the North American leg of their 25 Years of Noise tour!
After sets by Split Chain and Arm’s Length (covered in our Toronto review), we checked out New Jersey post-hardcore band Thursday. Led by the captivating Geoff Rickly and with Alexisonfire’s Wade MacNeil as a special guest, one might say their set got too hot too handle, as the fire alarms started going off 5 songs in! After a little break waiting for the firefighters to investigate and give the green light, the show picked back up with two songs left. It’s totally understandable that their set got cut short so that Silverstein could still play in full, but we wish we had gotten to see more of their kick-ass show!
Up next, Ontario’s Silverstein arrived on stage to a thunder of applause! Their set was a carefully crafted playlist, showcasing hits from every album (including their debut EP), as a travel through time during their 25 years as a band. As frontman Shane Told said in the intro tape, “25 years ago, we were just 5 dudes from Canada. For us it was about making noise, doing what we love, and something amazing happened, you all showed up.”, setting the tone for the energy of the evening. The crowd was super into the performance (including during highlights The Afterglow, The End, Smile in Your Sleep, My Heroine, and many more!), and the band was feeding off this energy to give it right back to them! Everyone crowd surfed, moshed, and lived through an evening to remember!
Silverstein’s 25 Years of Noise tour will be back for a 2nd North American leg later this Spring, including dates in London and Ottawa! For dates and more details, check out the band’s website.
