San Diego Rock Collective Chest Fever / Mrs. Henry Kick-Off North American Tour in Canada
Chest Fever, the official revival of The Band and alter ego of San Diego’s Mrs. Henry, is kicking off their North American tour with dates in British Columbia starting February 1st in Roberts Creek and wrapping up on February 7th in Vancouver. After heading south for U.S. shows, they’ll return to Canada in late March, finishing the tour in Ontario and Quebec. Alongside them, Mrs. Henry will open the shows in support of their new album Keep On Rising.
Celebrating their third year touring, Chest Fever continues to share the legacy of The Band with their high-energy performances, including a sold-out show at Massey Hall in 2023. This tour marks their second time performing in Canadian markets, with first-time stops in Victoria and Montreal. The group, featuring members of Mrs. Henry, blends original rock with timeless classics, showcasing their passion for both their own music and The Band’s iconic catalog.
Hi there. First off, care to introduce yourselves to our readers?
We are an original rock n roll band from San Diego, CA called Mrs. Henry, and we also go by our alter-ego Chest Fever – The Official Revival of The Band,
With Mrs. Henry opening for Chest Fever, how do you balance paying tribute to The Band with showcasing your original music?
We balance paying tribute to The Band and showcasing our original music by presenting two very different shows, with a classic “headliner” and “supporting band” approach. Every night we strive to give fans of The Band a live experience that is as close to the real thing as we can get. The opportunity to showcase ourselves as a group is important to us, and our respect to the audience is just as important so we make sure to honor both with authenticity. We take on the songs of The Band as if they were our own, giving them the same love as we would to our own material. In the same breadth – If you don’t know who Mrs. Henry is and what we sound like, you sure will after the show as we craft our original set to distinguish ourselves from The Band.
Both Chest Fever and Mrs. Henry are known for their high-energy performances. How do you keep that level of intensity night after night on such an extensive tour?
Team work. It makes the whole thing possible. Just like The Band, we have 3 lead singers in the group (4 now with the addition of Ben Pinnola), and we think ahead each night with that in mind. Passing the vocal duties around helps give one another a chance to back up and swap leads. We’ve built up quite an endurance over the years too, and the group cut our teeth playing those longer 3-4 hour bar gigs like The Band or The Beatles in the early days.
What are the key similarities between The Band’s music and Mrs. Henry’s original sound that make this pairing feel so seamless?
The dynamics of the group. The appreciation for vocal harmonies. We really put an emphasis on our singing and that is the heart of the song. Much like the band, it is about that great chorus and story to get there. Another similarity is that everyone in the group is a real character, and brings their personality to the table.
After three years of touring together as Chest Fever and two tours with Mrs. Henry, how has this journey impacted you as musicians and as a group?
It has challenged and strengthened us to the core. We’ve had band and crew members come and go but the flame still burns. Hotter than hell! We’ve learned so much about ourselves as artists and musicians while keeping the focus on what matters the most: the music. The power of music.
After this North American tour, what’s next for both Chest Fever and Mrs. Henry? Are there any new projects or collaborations on the horizon?
An endless highway. We plan to continue to make music, tour, release records, and hopefully a chance in 2025 to perform our original rock opera epic Keep On Rising.
