Lyubov Kay Captures the Magic of Dreaming on Genre-Blending New Single, “cU”
Lyubov Kay’s latest single, “cU,” explores the magnetic pull of dreams and memories through a sultry and vibrant pop sound. Known for her soothing vocals and honest storytelling, Kay combines Latin-inspired rhythms with a magnetic danceable beat, creating a track that resonates on both an emotional and physical level. Co-written with Peruvian producer David Cabrera Morillos, the song is a genre-blending journey that surprises and uplifts.
With “cU,” Lyubov Kay invites listeners into a dreamscape where nostalgia meets hope. The song plays on the duality of longing and energy, transitioning from a slow, introspective start to a chorus that demands movement. Through clever production choices like an alarm-inspired melody, Kay draws listeners into her world, creating a relatable experience that feels intimate and universal.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey, I’m Lyubov Kay, a singer-songwriter making alternative pop music. I love experimenting with different genres and sounds and telling stories through my songs. I’ve been singing and writing since I was a kid, and now, I get to share those songs with the world, which is pretty cool! Aside from that, I’m really into fashion and gaming – they’re both ways I get to express myself and have fun.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My newest single, cU, is a dreamy, bittersweet track about revisiting someone you’ve lost in your dreams and holding onto that feeling. It’s pretty unique because it was recorded in Peru with limited resources while I was traveling! That explains the Latin-inspired rhythms we added to the song— something people can vibe and connect with.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I don’t really stick to one formula—it depends on the song. Sometimes I’ll start with a melody that’s been stuck in my head, other times it’s a lyric or even a feeling I want to capture. The best songs come from moments where I have something to say or a story to tell, so I just try to stay open and see where the inspiration takes me.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I’m working on some exciting content for cU, including a music video that really captures the dreamlike quality of the song. I’ve got a few live performances lined up, and I’ll be sharing more about the creative process behind the track on social media!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
One big highlight for me was hitting 1 million views on YouTube—it felt like such a huge milestone and a reminder that people are connecting with my music. Anyone who’s posted videos on YouTube will know how much work goes into every video. It was the place where I first started sharing my songs, so it makes it more special.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
That’s a tough one because there’s so much talent out there! But I’d say check out any artist that goes through Canada’s Music Incubator or the Rise Edutainment artist development program—they’re doing some really cool stuff in the scene. I was lucky to be part of their cohorts, and all the artists I’ve met have been extremely talented.
