Melodic death metal legends The Black Dahlia Murder have just released their 10th studio album Servitude. To celebrate the release of this milestone they have embarked on a North American tour with Dying Fetus, Spite, Angelmaker and Vomit Forth. On November 6th, 2024, this tour made a stop at the Pheonix in Toronto.

Unfortunately, I was not able to catch Vomit Forth’s set.

Angelmaker is my favourite metal band. Everytime they come to town, I will always be there. Although their setlist was rather short, they sounded awesome and picked a great selection of songs. Recently, one of their two vocalists was replaced. In the place of Mike Greenwood we now have Ian Bearer whom was previously of Rings of Saturn. Mike was an awesome vocalist and though his presence will be missed, Ian Bearer fits right in. The two vocalist dynamic of Angelmaker gives the band some nice variety and really helps the live show sound so full. I understand that some fans will be upset with Mike no longer being in the band, however, I’m pleased to say that Angelmaker is still in good form and blew me away as they always do.

Spite has become a fan favourite within the deathcore genre for good reason. Their music is energetic and has this unhinged angst that adds so much attitude. Every member of the band is an excellent performer and they always play with so much conviction. Every song is packed with grooves, hooks and a nice variety of punchy riffs. The vocals of Daris Tehrani are a standout and he has created an unique and memorable sound that will be sire to capture your attention. As usual, Spite played an awesome set and the crowd went nuts during their performance.

Dying Fetus are legends within the world of death metal. After being a band for 30-some years, Dying Fetus still has it. This Maryland band has been consistently releasing albums to much fanfare and critical praise. It’s awesome to see them play so well after such a long time. They have maintained relevance within the genre and if anything, they’re more popular than ever. With such a large discography, their setlists spans their entire career and they played the fan favourites. Dying Fetus Is known for their tight performances and this night was no exception. I highly recommend catching one of their shows if you haven’t.

The Black Dahlia Murder has made an amazing comeback album and is their first release since the passing of their previous vocalist Trever Strnad. Trevor was an awesome vocalist and his presence was an era of the band that we all remember fondly. Fortunately, Servitude is one of the better albums they have put out in quite a while. This new era of the band is also so good live. The setlist spanned their entire career while also playing some songs off Servitude to show off the album. These sings translated perfectly to the live setting and I imagine they’ll become a staple within their setlist. They sounded phenomenal and all the band members exude so much fun and energy as they perform. I have seen The Black Dahlia Murder so many times and yet, this might have been one of my favourite performances. It was everything I could have hoped for and I look forward to the next time they come around.

The Beg to Serve 2024 tour is an awesome package. Every band is on top of their game and bringing something new to the table. This is easily one of the best tours of the year. I’d recommend this tour to all fans of heavy music. This is one you won’t want to miss.
