Aaron Goodvin shares single, “Your Time To Stay” (Interview)

AARON GOODVIN RELEASES VULNERABLE NEW SINGLE, “YOUR TIME TO STAY”

World-renowned country music hitmaker Aaron Goodvin opens the door to a part of his life he’s never shared before with his heartfelt new single “Your Time to Stay,” available now.

Celebrated for crafting hits not just for himself but for other artists as well, Aaron Goodvin initially thought “Your Time to Stay” was meant to be a standout track for someone else

“It wasn’t until a few months later that I realized I had written a chapter from my life,” says Goodvin. “All relationships have ups and downs and my wife Victoria and I certainly had ours. Covid was a very tough time for us, and we came so close to ending it. It’s a miracle we are where we are today, still together, and closer than ever with a beautiful little girl, our new daughter, that has completely changed our lives forever.”

Goodvin has been performing the song during his shows across Canada and the U.S. over the past few months and has seen the connection it has made with his audiences. “I started receiving DMs after shows explaining how this song changed people’s relationships and encouraged them to give it another go. For that reason, this song means so much to me and my family,” he says.

The song follows line dance sensation “Country Dance” and “Written All Over It” and will be included on his next EP release, arriving early next year.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey everyone, I am Aaron Goodvin, a country music artist, singer, songwriter, and performer from Spirit River, Alberta. I’ve made my home in Nashville for almost 13 years.

Your new single, “Your Time To Stay” touches on the challenges you and your wife faced during the pandemic. How did that difficult period influence your songwriting?

It sure does. We had a rough go, like I think so many have. I often joke that we struggled because I was home and not out on the road. I have always been quite an open book as far as my songwriting goes and the pandemic influenced a lot of things for me because I am an open book but I am not always aware of it. When I wrote “Your Time To Stay,” I didn’t even realize I was writing a chapter from my life until a few months later. I think songs have a way of weaving their way into the artist who sings them. This song is no different.

You’ve mentioned that fans reached out saying this song helped their relationships. Was that something you anticipated, or were you surprised by the connection people had with it?

You have no idea how people are going to react to any new song you play. Most of the time you hear crickets, but almost immediately after we started playing this song we would have people reaching out saying, “We were just about to give up, then we heard your song and now are not.” It’s the ultimate compliment. When you find a song that actually makes people change the course of their lives, that’s when you know you have struck gold. The song was so special from the get go. I look forward to hearing all the stories of people staying together or getting back together. Lord knows I am so glad Victoria and I didn’t give up when everything was saying we should.

How does “Your Time to Stay” fit thematically within your upcoming EP? Is this song a centerpiece or just one chapter of the overall story you’re telling?

“Your Time to Stay” is a big token love song. I always love to have one on every record. It’s a huge staple for this record.

You’ve written hit songs for artists like Luke Bryan, Jon Pardi, and Cole Swindell. How does writing for others differ from writing for yourself, especially when it’s as personal as “Your Time to Stay”?

I always try to write the best song in the room. I didn’t think “Your Time To Stay”  was even my song when we wrote it. But I did think it was a huge hit for someone else. I am happy I revisited it later and was like wait a minute, this is my life. I feel like once you write a song it will find the right artist at the right time. “Your Time to Stay” hit me when it needed to. I never really try to write for another artist, it just so happens that the songs I was a writer on just happened to be exactly what they needed when they needed it. I am always so grateful when that happens.

With 13 CCMA nominations and numerous hits under your belt, what has been the most rewarding part of your journey so far?

That’s a tough question. I have been very blessed throughout my career. The one thing that is jumping out to me now is when I won Songwriter of the Year at the CCMAs for “Lonely Drum”  in 2018. It was just such a great moment for me and my team. But there have been so many amazing things.

You’ve got a new EP coming out next year. Can you give us a sneak peek into what we can expect from the rest of the project?

I am so excited about this record. We have a song for everyone on this one. I have a song about recovery and what I went through during the pandemic, a song for all my redneck friends, a love song, a song that literally spells out my life, and a song for making you feel good. And one you can line dance to… I feel like we checked all the boxes.
