ORRA – Five Questions With

New Alt-Pop Single “I Knew” from ORRA

Vancouver’s indie pop band, ORRA, has released their new single, “I Knew.”

“I Knew” is a call to action for all those who want to reinvent their lives. The song describes a meet-cute with someone who is pursuing their dreams and inspires you to chase yours. The disco-influenced song features driving drums, Nile Rodgers-style guitar, and inspirational strings building to a climax that makes you want to change your life. Produced by: Helm Studios, ‘I Knew’ is sonically resonant of artists such as Lorde, Chic, and Dua Lipa.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey! We’re ORRA, an alt-pop band from Vancouver B.C. We’re a four-piece band consisting of Sarah Orr (vocals, keys), Jacqui Munro (guitar, vocals), Alan Kane (bass, vocals), and Cam McGregor (drums). We’re heavily influenced by the danceable grooves of Fleetwood Mac and ABBA combined with the modern sound of pop artists, Lorde and MGMT. Often, our lyrics are about the struggles and lifelong decisions of early adulthood.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

It can definitely change depending on the song or starting point. Oftentimes, one of us will have a rough demo for a new song and we’ll all try to brainstorm different avenues to take it in. Or it can start with something as simple as an experience, like losing touch with a friend, and we all try to find what vibe would best fit to amplify that feeling.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

Fans can definitely expect future promo for the song. We’re planning to release a music video for “I Knew” as well as new photos to accompany the release. Following our Instagram or TikTok accounts will be an easy way to see this additional content.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

As a band, we’re still quite new in the scene and we’re just happy with all the amazing people we’ve met. Whether it be other bands we’ve played with or audience members, they’ve all been super cool and supportive! It’s great seeing that the Vancouver music scene is so warm and we really felt that this summer. I think a specific highlight was playing the Green Auto outside the venue, with the ocean backdrop and the sea breeze – it really was a perfect night.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

We would highly recommend seeing Ramen Fog live if you’re in Vancouver! It was great meeting them, they’re all so nice and oh boy they can play! All their tones are so dialed in to give a perfectly lush and soulful sound, it really is a treat to hear them.
