The Stone Temple Pilots, Live, and Soul Asylum performed at Budweiser Stage on September 8, 2024, as part of their Jubilee tour, marking the 30th anniversary of Stone Temple Pilot’s “Purple” and Live’s “Throwing Copper,” two iconic albums that defined the 90’s rock scene.

Soul Asylum kicked off the evening with a selection of hits spanning the early 90’s including “Misery” and “Runaway Train,” setting the stage for Live and STP with their energetic delivery.

Live took the stage next, playing “Throwing Copper” in its entirety along with a collection of other top songs (although “I Alone” and “Lightning Crashes” were reserved for the encore. Although Ed Kowalczyk is the only original member of Live remaining, his engaging band was up to the task. Live even had two local Toronto musicians join them for a song.

Finally, Stone Temple Pilots closed the night with a dynamic performance that had everyone on their feet. Inviting Gutt’s former band mate, and Our Lady Peace member, Steve Mazur on stage for a song, they played “Purple” from front to back. Adding in fan favourites including “Plush” and “Dead and Bloated,” they fought back a flood of memories for many fans.  Lead vocalist Jeff Gutt had undeniable energy and stage presence and did an impressive job of honouring Scott Weiland’s legacy while bringing his own flair to the show.

Overall, the concert was a nostalgic trip down memory lane that made for an unforgettable night.
