TORONTO MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST DEAN DROUILLARD ANNOUNCES MIRRORS AND GHOSTS A CURATED IMPROVISATION LP OUT NOVEMBER 1
Toronto multi-instrumentalist Dean Drouillard today announces his most personal and introspective work to date, Mirrors and Ghosts set for release on November 1st. An instrumental exploration, the record delves into the evocative musical landscapes that originally sparked Drouillard’s passion for music. Drouillard today shares the first track “Portland”.
Drouillard approached the album with a methodology he describes as “curated improvisation” which can be seen in the debut single “Portland”. The track starts with echoes of The Smile, evolving into a lush and heartfelt soundscape. It reflects the memory of a drive through Portland Oregon’s distinct neighbourhoods and over its iconic bridges, reflecting the city’s mix of tranquillity and tension. Passing through a muted but chaotic sonic transition, the song transitions to the forests and foothills, conveying a serene departure from the urban environment. The layered and overlapping Steve Reich’esque guitars provide a sense of peace and contentment.
Dean Drouillard is one of Canada’s most sought-after touring and studio musicians, often on the road with artists like Donovan Woods, Great Lake Swimmers, and Rose Cousins or in the studio with artists like Joshua Van Tassel or Justin Rutledge. He’s well-loved for his thoughtful approach to channelling and elevating other artists’ visions but his experimental records have gained a loyal following of their own.
Mirrors and Ghosts is set for release on November 1st, 2024.
