The Wild Hymns’ new single, “Drop Your Burden”, a sweet reminder that “it’s all gonna work out in the end, you know”
Pennsylvania–based pop/folk indie band The Wild Hymns’ new single, “Drop Your Burden”, is a groovy, soulful tune reminding listeners to “drop your burden, let go of your sorrow”.
Megan Woodland Hewitt, singer-songwriter and frontwoman of The Wild Hymns wrote “Drop Your Burden” in 2009 during a challenging time when she was unsure of where things were going in her life. The Hymns released the song on their 2014 debut, self-titled album, and are releasing a live-in-studio version that has a retro-modern feel with their current backing band..
“It’s kind of a love song to myself and anyone out there who is hurting. And I know there are a lot of us hurting these days,” says Hewitt. “We wanted to release a new version of the song this year because it seems so relevant to the insane times we find ourselves in. We wanted to offer some hope, some love and some soothing energy.. And we love this version of the song. It’s cool to revisit and revamp something from our earliest album”.
“Drop Your Burden” has a groovy rhythm, retro-sounding synth and guitar, and Megan’s dreamy, velvety vocals floating over it all like a lullaby for the world. The track was recorded live in the studio in March of 2023 at Right Coast Recording in Columbia, PA with Bobby Gentilo, an award-winning international record producer and musician.
The Wild Hymns are excited to share “Drop Your Burden” with the world and to finish out 2024 with abundant duo and full band performances on the East Coast. They have a string of other upcoming singles and live-in-studio performances coming out over the coming months and into 2025 with plans to begin a new album soon.
