Riverfest Elora Day 2
August 17, 2024
Bissell Park Elora, ON
Celebrating its 14th year, Riverfest Elora showcased another amazing weekend of music and community. Significant rain on day 2 caused some delays and early shutdown of the festival for safety reasons due to too much water on site. Most performances were able to take place.
Peter Piper (Main Stage)
As has become tradition, Peter Piper has started every day of each Riverfest Elora weekend for over 6 years.
Amanda Braam (Main Stage)
Amanda and the Paper Cranes are a collection of musicians from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo: Amanda (songwriter / lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Fiona (guitar/keys/vocals), Eve (bass/vocals), and Zoe (percussion/vocals). Vivid imagery, storytelling, catchy melodies, and crunchy chord progressions distinguish this indie band’s sound.
Painting Pelicans (Koop Tent)
Painting Pelicans is a Southern Ontario indie rock group formed in 2021 by Jonas Bakelaar (guitar) and Harry Couling (vocals). Initially conceived as an outlet for Harry to record his solo music, it has since expanded into a collaborative music collective.
Luella (Grassland Stage)
Luella is the musical project of 20-year-old Kingston-based artist Liv Whitfield. Her soulful dream-pop sound is most notable for its catchy baselines, crisp vocals, and honest lyrics.
Una Mia (Main Stage)
Toronto-born, Belleville-raised Alt-R&B/Pop songstress UNA MIA undoubtedly embodies all that it means to be your own hero. Marked by soothing melodies and intoxicating lyrics, UNA’s music encapsulates her experience as she navigates her way through adolescence into early adulthood while discovering her sense of self along the way.
Motherhood (Koop Tent)
A trio of deep-thinkin’ rippers, New Brunswick’s Motherhood achieve one very rare and uncomplicated feat: they sound EXCITING on record and stage alike.
Alex Nicol (Grassland Stage)
Montreal-based singer/songwriter Alex Nicol intermingles the personal and the universal, showcases his versatility as a songwriter, one unafraid of taking on bigger topics, but equally fearless of the vulnerability required to share his own deepest truths.
Chali 2na & Cut Chemist (Main Stage)
Chali 2na and Cut Chemist have been inseparable for 35 years. It all started in 1987 when they formed their first group UNITY Committee just a couple of years after Chali moved from Chicago to Los Angeles.
In 1994 they combined forces with local rap group Rebels Of Rhythm to form Jurassic 5. Although J5 was in full swing making music and doing shows, Chali and Cut also were founding members of the fusion Latin group Ozomatli in 1995. Since then the two have been busy with both groups and still managed to find time to separate and embark in solo careers on the side.
Population II (Koop Tent)
Population II is a band dedicated to its disengagement, constantly working on refining their imposing, yet unpretentious sound. A trio consisting of singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe and bassist Sébastien Provençal, Population II are masters at both improvised madness and sophisticated composition, delivering heavy psychedelic rock infused with feverish funk rhythms, a hint of jazz philosophy, a burst of energy reminiscent of punk’s early days, and a love of minor scales that harkens back to the roots of heavy metal. The band’s uniqueness is reinforced by Pierre-Luc’s unique voice and his introspective, nostalgic, and offbeat lyrics.
The Creepshow (Grassland Stage)
For the past 13+ years, The Creepshow have been smashing the whole damn world in the face with their brutaltastic mélange of punk, country, psychobilly and good old-fashioned rock n’ roll. They’ve toured the world, sold a metric shit-ton of records, garnered millions of video views and blown the faces off a ga-zillion fans.
Sudan Archives, Ombiigizi, Moneen, and Fleet Foxes were unable to perform.
