BABO BABY, also known as Jesse Merineau, is a singer-songwriter born in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. He is now poised to embark on a fresh musical journey, bringing to life a vision he has long dreamed of.
Merineau’s past indie-rock act quickly gained traction, captivating audiences and selling out numerous concerts. He achieved a significant milestone by signing with the renowned label Blanco Y Negro in Spain, reaching many of his initial career goals. The pandemic’s impact on live performances, coupled with evolving musical tastes, prompted Merineau to pursue a new project.
After a decade in the industry, he leveraged his network to create BABO BABY, collaborating with DJs and producers from Paris, LA, Seoul, and New Zealand. This project features modern-futuristic pop instrumentals and lyrics inspired by his new love from South Korea, marking a significant evolution in his musical journey.

What’s up! I’m BABO BABY, also known as Jesse Merineau. I’m a pop artist, and my debut single is officially out!
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
I just released my debut track, ‘Your Babo Baby.’ It’s more than just a song; it unveils the story and meaning behind BABO BABY, where ‘Babo’ means ‘stupid’ or ‘foolish’ in Korean, giving the name an intriguing edge.
After all, falling stupidly in love is an amazing feeling we all know well.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
As BABO BABY, I collaborate with producers and DJs from around the globe to create standout instrumental tracks. I then consider the mood they evoke and the words that naturally come to mind. This approach ensures the song remains coherent and its vibe is clear. I write multiple versions of the song, often combining elements from different takes. Before finalizing, I evaluate how well the song translates to live performance. Once I can vividly envision it thrilling an audience at a concert, I know my songwriting is complete.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
Fans can look forward to many more releases ahead. I’ve been working behind the scenes to ensure a steady stream of new music, so listeners stay connected to the project without long gaps. Once I have enough tracks for a full live set, I’ll plan a spectacular live debut.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
This is the moment! My turning point and highlight is crafting a project I’m passionate about, using my industry experience to make it as exceptional as possible.
