Seye Odebiyi – Five Questions With

Seye Odebiyi Transports with Chill R&B Single “A Walk With You”

Based in Toronto, ON by way of London, England, by way of Ile-Ife, Nigeria, artist and producer Seye Odebiyi uses his musical exposure from different countries to feed into his creative process.

“What I do not want to do is to sound like everything else.” Seye is looking to make his music reach and impact as many people as possible, as well as bring a smile, a dance and a lasting memory. “I love African percussion in my rhythms. So no matter the style, if you listen hard enough, you’ll hear some congas, bongos, and/or shakers.”

Familiar but fresh, “A Walk With You” is his soulful single with an old-school R&B sound, transporting listeners to a special place with their special someone.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Seye (pronounced ‘She’ as in ‘Shed’, Ye, as in ‘Yet) Odebiyi. I am a music producer and artist based out of Toronto, ON in Canada.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My latest release is titled ‘A Walk With You’, and it is a story about asking someone out for the first time and going out for a walk by the beach. I wanted to create a classic R&B sound that sounded fresh and new.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

As a producer, I usually start off with the music, that inspires the theme, the name of the song, the melody, and finally the lyrics. Sometimes I will have the music for months but no lyrics or music, and sometimes everything all comes together at once. But if there is any formula or method to the madness, it almost always starts with the music and then everything else follows.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

Already working on another song, and I am at the songwriting portion of it i.e. I got the music done. The plan is to keep releasing quality music on a consistent basis so as to keep fans coming back for more, as well as attracting new fans!

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

So I started making music again during the pandemic just as something to do during the lockdown, and in these 4 years – yes, the pandemic feels like a long time ago, even though it’s not, I have released 20 plus songs and counting and the response has been pretty amazing so far, with 2 of the songs making it on a Spotify editorial playlist. I now look at this as a journey and I am enjoying the process and it has been a blessing so far.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

Please check out Ryan Wayne who is an amazing folk musician as well as Tania Adderley, who is an amazing gospel artist. Please show them some love – thank you!
