Frank Mighty shares new single, “Cake”

Frank Mighty Annouces Southern Ontario Fall Tour

indie-alt rock artist Frank Mighty – the alter ego of Calgary-born, Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist John Traboulsi – unveils a new single and music video, “CAKE”. Produced by frequent collaborator Quin Kiu, “Cake” sees Traboulsi’s gorgeous and ever-evolving songwriting find new purchase, blending his unique upbeat yet melancholy indie sound, with a subtle country-pop flair.

Speaking on the single and video, Traboulsi shares;

“’CAKE’ is about getting lost in work and missing the important moments around you. I wanted to put into perspective that what we all do…every day…is just a blip in time. The music video captures this so well. Kate Harrison (Director, Producer, Editor) came up with the concept – whenever I’m working, whether on my computer or singing, life is happening behind me in fast motion, demonstrating that hours spent working feel like forever, and the moments behind are whizzing by. Work is always just work.”

“We shot the whole thing in a day and a few friends of mine were background extras,” Traboulsi continues. “The timelapse footage is shot at 16% of the original speed of the song, so when sped up it has the effect you see in the final version. I had to sing the song so slowly over the course of 2-3 minutes for each timelapse section while trying not to blink so it would appear as normal as possible. It was a blast working with Kate and Blake Hannahson (Director of Photography) on it. The video is a shot by shot depiction of my actual morning and work day, and I wrote the song when I was feeling inundated with work, so I hope people relate to that feeling when they watch this.”

Traboulsi also teased that a new EP is on the way, set to arrive this fall, which he says is “inspired by a 6 month period where everything just felt so existential. Work, relationships, global events, the same conversations over and over, everything in my life felt so immediate and huge all the time, friends going through hard times. It felt like a vacuum.”

The upcoming release follows Frank Mighty’s 2023 EP FM Radio, which featured ‘ironic’ indie love songs “Indefinitely”, and “Light Buzz”. FM Radio cemented Frank Mighty’s musical trajectory, following the success of Never Homesick, with lead single “Unattainable (Keep Me Close)” hitting over 200K streams on Spotify alone.

The song joined “Rakefire“, the third single off Frank Mighty’s debut EP Whispersongs, in crossing the six-digit streaming threshold, in no small part boosted by the track being featured prominently on season 2, episode 8 of the hit Netflix series Ginny & Georgia.

Frank Mighty will be hitting the road for a string of southern Ontario shows this fall, including stops in Hamilton, London, and Elora, with a special Toronto performance at Longboat Hall on November 1. He recently sold out single release shows in Toronto and Vancouver. Tickets links for the upcoming Ontario run will be posted as they are available on Frank Mighty’s website, HERE.

The new tour follows Frank wrapping up a successful last year of performances. He notably featured at last year’s Tall Pines Music Festival alongside Serena Ryder, Classified, and Tokyo Police Club, backed by a full band featuring keyboardist Eddy Ruyter (Shawn Mendes), drummer Miles Gibbons (Serena Ryder), bassist Stacey Shopsowitz (J Ember, The Kount, Ren, Wild Rivers) and guitarist Martin Añón (Joseph of Mercury, RBC Music). Traboulsi also headlined Aurorapalooza which also featured Misty Blue, Dallas, and Cam Kahin.
