Andrea Cormier releases hazy slowcore dream pop single, “Later Hour”
Experimental psychedelic folk singer-songwriter ANDREA CORMIER releases her new single, “Later Hour.”
Channeling the hazy slowcore dream pop of artists such as Mazzy Star and Beach House, the 90s-tinged single reflects on how unprocessed memories can resurface unexpectedly in idle moments. The gossamer vocal melody captures a quiet longing that is matched beautifully by the track’s arrangement and sonic landscape.
“‘Later Hour’ was written in 2021 after a very busy period in my life. I suddenly found myself with a lot of time and it felt somewhat disorienting,” Cormier explains. “At that time I sought simplicity, comfort, and familiarity, which I think is reflected in the song structure.”
Beneath a simple chord progression and steady drums, ethereal synth lines (performed by co-producer and recording engineer Palmer Jamieson) stitch the rich tapestry together, offering a level of optimism that counters the emotional complexity of the song.
The track is accompanied by a stunning music video directed and edited by Rose Mercier-Marcotte. Shot in both Montreal, QC and at Crystal Crescent Beach in Sambro Creek, NS, the clip, which – at times – wades into surrealist motifs, impeccably matches the aesthetic that Cormier so expertly curates.
“Later Hour” is the first single from Andrea Cormier’s upcoming, self-titled EP. The sophomore record, due out this October, showcases Cormier’s silvery vocals and psychedelic-infused folk alongside rock rhythms and lucid meditations.
