In July 1994, comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with Jupiter, an event that could have annihilated Earth. Inspired by this historic event, the band Shoemaker Levee was born. They blend anthemic, introspective rock with influences from classical, progressive, alternative, and folk music.
Shoemaker Levee’s releases, “Phase of the Days” and “Another Round,” have received acclaim from fans and critics, including Alan Cross. They’ve performed at notable Toronto venues like the El Mocambo, The Reverb, and Lee’s Palace.
The band has won the Steam Whistle Indie Music Series, placed second at the Ticket to Tall Pines Festival contest (2023), headlined the Gussapolooza Music Festival (2023), and supported events like York Pridefest and the Annual Terry Fox Run in Toronto.
The band has unveiled their brand new single, “Hinterlands.”
Review
“Hinterlands” is a captivating rock exploration of existential musings and introspective contemplation. The track opens with a gripping urgency, depicted in the lines “Rage of idle / Press the dull blockade,” instantly drawing listeners into a world of tension and introspection.
The track’s conclusion, with the lines “All that now remains is / Time / Out where roads require no signs,” leaves listeners with a lingering sense of mystery and contemplation, effectively capturing the essence of an ongoing quest for self and purpose.
Musically, “Hinterlands” complements its lyrical depth with a rock soundscape that feels both vast and personal.
Overall, “Hinterlands” is a profound and evocative rock piece that resonates with anyone grappling with the questions of identity, purpose, and the ever-elusive nature of the future.
