On July 8, South African country artist Orville Peck brought his Stampede Tour to the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, BC.

The evening kicked off with the amazing Goldie Boutilier, who did a fantastic job of warming up the crowd for Orville.

Orville Peck, known for always wearing a mask in public, has a mysterious persona that’s key to his identity. The stage was set with his band, lights spelling out his name, and a colorful backdrop. As his band set up, Orville casually strolled onto the stage, greeted by a roar of excitement from the audience. He introduced himself with an easy charm, dressed in a black sleeveless jacket and pants with a sparkly scorpion pattern, a matching cowboy hat, and his signature mask. Although he opted for a simpler look this time – no signature fringed mask this time, he was all set to deliver a fantastic performance.

He kicked off his set with the haunting and dreamy “Big Sky,” making a grand entrance for the lone ranger. “Turn To Hate” and “The Hurting’ Kind” followed, with Orville’s traditional tossing roses to audience members, adding a personal touch to the show.

His setlist included songs from all his albums, like Bronco and his latest Stampede. Orville also opened up about his past mental health struggles, thanking his fans for their support and sharing how great it was to be back in Vancouver, where he spent some of his formative years.

He performed his latest fan favourite, “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other,” offering a humorous social commentary on masculinity and sexuality among cowboys.

The arena was packed with devoted fans, many dressed in creative outfits. Of course, cowboy boots and hats were everywhere, but many fans also wore their own renditions of classic Orville Peck outfits, complete with fringed masks.

Orville Peck will be touring the US and Canada until late October, so catch his show if you get the chance!
