JUNO Award Winner Errol Starr and TRIBZ Release Self-Titled Album Blending of R&B, Blues, Reggae, Pop, and Rock
Errol Starr and TRIBZ are thrilled to announce the release of their new self-titled album alongside the highly anticipated single “Paradise.” This release marks a significant milestone in their music careers, as it is the first from the group since their formation in 2021.
Errol Starr and TRIBZ’s latest project is not just an album; it’s an immersive experience that masterfully blends R&B, Blues, Reggae, Pop, and Rock music. This unique fusion of genres promises to captivate both fans and new listeners, offering a diverse sound that has something for every audience.
“Paradise,” was written by the group’s guitarist, Earl Johnson. The reggae feel of the record is the perfect accompaniment to lyrics that paint a picture of paradise in Bermuda, where he spent his honeymoon:
“Girl, it’s just you and I – Walking hand in hand
Sunny Skies above and Footprints in the sand
Where we fell in Love – on this Island Beach
Making Love till night – to the sounds of the Sea.”
Johnson says,
“I’m sure many couples can relate to the lyrics about trying to go back and recapture a past love or romance and try it once again.”
The creation of this virtual album is a testament to the incredible collaborative process between Errol Starr and TRIBZ. Their shared vision and dedication to producing unique and innovative music shines through on every track as they effortlessly sail through different genres of music. This project exemplifies their commitment to pushing the limits of what is possible in music, blending artistry with passion to create something extraordinary.
Errol Starr and TRIBZ became a musical ensemble in 2021 when Earl Johnson reached out to Juno Award winner Errol Starr to add his exceptional vocal styling to the group. An adopted member of the ASMIN Metis, Starr delivers on every track with his bluesy reggae-inspired vocals. Johnson, who made the call, is a member of the Six Nations Tuscarora tribe and has shared the stage with legends such as AC/DC, Boston, and Black Sabbath. Dave Davidson keeps the beat in the percussion section. He has roots in rock, funk, and blues and has traveled the world with the Keltic rock band The American Rogues. Rounding out the group is bassist Donny Hill. He’s a member of the Six Nations Mohawk tribe and has shared the stage with Big Sugar, Blue Rodeo, and the cast of “RUMBLE. Indians Who Rocked the World.”
Hi Errol! Care to introduce yourself to the readers?
My name is Errol Starr Francis and I’m a JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter in the R&B/Soul category, hailing from Toronto’s vibrant musical scene of the mid-eighties. My journey in music has been a deeply personal one, fuelled by a passion to create music that uplifts and inspires. I believe music has the power to transcend boundaries and connect us on a profound level.
Beyond my musical pursuits, I am also a proud father to two and grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren. My family serves as my anchor and constant reminder of the value of love, compassion, and connection – values which I strive to incorporate into my music that resonates with human experience.
Our music is an expression of our life’s experiences, hopes, and dreams. It combines soulful melodies with emotive lyrics to communicate messages of empowerment and hopefulness – our goal is to craft songs that reach out and touch hearts while having lasting effects.
I believe strongly in the power of collaboration with talented artists like my bandmate in TRIBZ who we have a shared vision to produce music that transcends generations and that can spark new waves of creativity. Our ultimate aim is for our music to serve as a vehicle for positive change by uplifting and encouraging others and leaving a legacy of love and encouragement behind.
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your new album? How did the concept for this project come about?
TRIBZ’s musical journey is a testament to the power of diversity. Our band’s members, from diverse cultural backgrounds, have come together in our shared passion for music; The band, hailing from different cultural backgrounds, have found common ground in our shared passion for music. This diversity, reflected in our individual musical expressions, has become the very foundation of our unique sound.
Although our origins lie in various “TRIBZ,” so to speak, we have come together as one to create vibrant contemporary music that transcends boundaries and unites audiences across genres and generations. At TRIBZ we believe that by uniting people through music we can foster unity and promote positive change to achieve amazing things.
Our message is clear: diversity should not be seen as a source of weakness but instead seen as an asset that strengthens and inspires. By celebrating and appreciating each person’s differences, TRIBZ has produced a remarkable and transformative musical experience that celebrates unity through diversity.
The album blends R&B, Blues, Reggae, Pop, and Rock. How did you manage to seamlessly combine these diverse genres into a cohesive musical experience?
Because our backgrounds vary so widely – I come from an R&B/soul Reggae vibration while Earl, former guitarist in MOXY, brings Rock and Roll influences while Dave and Donny bring pop and blues influences; this allows us to quickly move between different genres with ease; it’s almost like we have an evolving musical kaleidoscope! With every song comes something new!
We’re not confined to one style, our music can effortlessly combine reggae rhythms with bluesy guitar licks, rock out with soulful overtones or incorporate Indigenous musical elements to produce a unique and dynamic sound that is both familiar and new. This allows us to craft a memorable musical experience!
We don’t shy away from experimentation and pushing boundaries, believing that our collective of diverse backgrounds makes us even stronger as musicians. We aren’t simply a band; rather we represent an eclectic musical melting pot eager to share our distinctive blend with everyone around the globe.
Paradise” seems to draw from personal experiences, particularly in Bermuda. Can you share more about the story or emotions behind the lyrics?
“Paradise” written by guitarist Earl Johnson is an emotive song inspired by his honeymoon experience in Bermuda with his wife. The lyrics convey joy, contentment, and paradise – feelings shared by listeners who have also experienced similar bliss. This song perfectly captures what it means to find oneself in an environment filled with pure happiness and tranquillity.
TRIBZ, as a band, has come together to create this musical gem, with each member contributing their talents to bring the song to life. The team effort behind the creation of “Paradise” is evident in the harmonious blend of music and lyrics that evokes a feeling of serenity and nostalgia.
With summer here, I’m delighted by how fitting “Paradise” is for this season and am eager to potentially perform it on islands next year. Sharing our music with a wider audience gives us great pleasure as we believe many can relate to its message of finding serenity and happiness in paradise.
“Paradise” is now streaming on platforms such as Spotify and iTunes, inviting listeners to dive deep into its captivating melodies and upbeat vibes. Your comments and reviews are much appreciated – I and TRIBZ look forward to connecting with more listeners through our music! Thank you again for all of your support!

We love to be able to Align ourselves with a charity and/or movement that is making a difference in the world. Especially for our children and our children’s children.
As part of our efforts, we’ve come together with War Child charity in Toronto and recently performed a concert to support them at Dundas Square. In Toronto. We also have hopes of supporting the “Every Child Matters” and “Truth and Reconciliation” causes.
Overall we are hoping for an enjoyable Summer where all can feel the soothing breezes of “Paradise”, and allow its vibrations to transport them, if only for 3:38 minutes….
