WINNIPEG MUSICIAN ROMI MAYES SHARES NEW ALBUM, SMALL VICTORIES
Winnipeg blues-roots musician Romi Mayes shares her new album Small Victories out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.
To celebrate the launch of her first album in 9 years, Romi is also releasing the video for her 2nd single ‘Can’t Stop Me Now.’ The straight-ahead roots blues rocker is a redemption anthem for Romi, and that narrative is mirrored in the video.
“‘Can’t Stop Me Now’ depicts a dead beat dad letting down his kid,” says Romi. “Though the song tells my personal story, the story told in the video is more of a cinematic and artistic way of expressing that no one can bring you down. And how it’s in their face when you can overcome adversity in life and come out on top with your chin held high. That our big self can be proud of the small self we carry through and rise above it.”
Romi’s long awaited 7th album Small Victories, is a collection of songs written over 9 years during her hiatus from releasing music. Produced by Romi herself, Small Victories was inspired by her family and relates to how everything positive, even small, should be considered a win.
Says Romi
“My daughter and her partner have a 5-year-old son that had biliary atresia and had to have a liver transplant when he was 2. When we were in the hospital in Toronto and he was recovering from the surgery my daughter said that every time a tube is removed or a bit of positive news comes in we have to hang on to those small victories. I wrote the title track that evening.”
Romi Mayes is one of the hardest working independent musicians touring the globe today. She’s become a household name in the international music scene and relentlessly continues to support artists in the Canadian music industry through the path she has paved with her company, Curbside Concerts. Over the years, Mayes has garnered three Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMAs) for Songwriter of the Year, two WCMAs for Album of The Year and Blues Artist of The Year, and a Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year.
Small Victories is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. Look for Romi Mayes on tour across Canada, starting on July 17th in Regina, SK. For more information, please visit HERE.
