Once in a lifetime, twice in a summertime, the Arkells double-header weekend at Budweiser Stage was exactly that, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we were there Saturday to capture the magic.
From working 9 to 5 with Grouplove, all the way to 11 11, the mass of fans from the floor to the lawn became helicopters as they all waved their complimentary rally towels in excitement.
Grouplove, an American indie pop band, did more than just warm up the crowd with their electric set, they won over Arkellians old and young with flowing hair flips, jumps off the drum stands, and a flying guitar. They played their incredible originals and hit heavy on the memories with a Blur “Song 2” cover.
Then, a countdown began. The fans screamed in excitement as the timer hit 10 seconds and soon, the buildup of anticipation was worth the wait. They came out on stage right away with their new single release “Big Feelings”, setting a tone and vibe for the entire set that surely gave everyone goosebumps.
Dipping into the deep cuts, and treating us to some tracks from the “Disco Loadout” album with special guests, Arkells fans cups are definitely full after two nights of what can ultimately be described as cloud 9.
