Morgan Klaiber Shares New Single, “Cowboy Killer”
Morgan Klaiber (pronounced Morgan Kliybur) embodies everything it means to be a Southern Alberta Cowgirl in both her music and day-to-day life.
Writing songs from the back of a horse or the seat of a tractor helped pave the way for her to wear her heart on her sleeve pursuing her own independent career. Her powerful resonant voice paired with approachable lyrics has heads turning at live shows and on streaming services. She includes many influences in music to create the sound and energy you feel and hear as Morgan Klaiber.
Her debut to radio comes not a moment too soon after winning the 2023 Ranchman’s Rising Star Competition in Calgary last fall, and she will be heard on many note-worth stages this summer such as the Country Thunder Calgary Main Stage, and Big Valley Jamboree.
Her latest offering “Cowboy Killer ” was penned by Deric Ruttan & Brad Tursi and recorded at the award-winning MCC Studios in Calgary.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Morgan Klaiber and I’m from Southern Alberta where I live and work on my family’s ranch. Besides ranching, my greatest passion is music and I’m so fortunate that I get to live the best of 2 worlds being so involved in the Western way of life and writing and performing music. My musical style is very influenced by older country music that’s reflective of the rural communities and people that I come from. When I’m not belting it out on stage somewhere, I’m at home helping Dad get the work done with a home life that I draw a great deal of inspiration from
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
“Cowboy Killer” is my first release that I haven’t written myself. My producer brought this song to me from Deric Ruttan and Brad Tursi, and I immediately connected with the lyrics on a very personal level. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have released the song. The cowboy way of life shaped me and is something I’m living day to day. I can’t imagine ever wanting to change a cowboy in my life for who he is.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I can’t say have a method to any of the madness, but I draw so much inspiration from the views I see in front of me. I’ve struggled to explain what I’m thinking in a sentence, but when there’s music, my thoughts pour out in a way that makes sense, and the melody always finds its way guided by raw emotion. Some songs happen in minutes and some take days, but either way, they are honest and vulnerable without any tactics in mind. Nothing but real-life hopes, dreams, fears, and stories here.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
My Biggest focus is getting out there to play live shows this summer. I have some very exciting performances coming up for the busy season and I’m thrilled to get to share my songs with a larger live audience. So far they’ve kept the dancefloor packed and the heads turning when I sing them and that truly warms my heart. As far as additional content goes, I put an EP out earlier this spring, with a full-length album to follow up this fall. I’ll be playing many of the songs off the album in my sets this summer and I’m looking forward to seeing how they land. I’m very proud of what I’m putting out there and bringing to the listener.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
I’m so fortunate to say there are many. I’ve never been a believer in one big defining point to shape my journey, but rather a collection of little things that have guided the way. But if I really have to pin it down, I became hooked on singing and performing alongside my dad, who was a country recording artist back in the 90s. I’ve never felt afraid to sing and share my passion thanks to him. One of the highlights so far as I’ve pursued music, was when I won the Ranchman’s Rising Star Competition in 2023, and all my family, friends, and community were there to be a part of it. It meant a lot to everyone to see a small-town girl go to the big city and bring home a win. The program gave me the connections to continue furthering my career and get myself out there.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
Have a look at Dusty Golden He’s a genuine cowboy, a great writer, and an all-around cool person. I was lucky enough to meet him through Rising Star and he was the runner-up. We’re playing many of the same events and venues this year and the future is very bright for that bull rider.
