DEVARROW shares new single, “Likewise”

Announces New Album, Heart Shaped Rock For Release On October 4

Graham Ereaux, who makes music as Devarrow, is a Canadian musician and producer celebrated for his songs reflecting on small-town joys, personal introspection, environmental and social concerns, and (on this new album) the unique love affair with his converted school bus turned music studio.

Today he announces the upcoming October 4, 2024 release of his new album, Heart Shaped Rock (on Paper Bag Records) which follows the surprise album, A Long & Distant Wave already released in the first half of this year. Devarrow previews Heart Shaped Rock with lead single and video for new LP track, “Likewise”

It’s a song that Graham first started working on in 2019 while attending an artist residency in Banff and significantly reengineered it for this new album. The accompanying video directed by Halifax’s Riley Lamarche is another meticulously crafted peek inside small coastal town life – with a twist. It expertly balances humour and beauty.

Reflecting the ethos of the song and its somewhat abstract and meaningless inception, the video came about in a similar fashion,” says Graham. “Abandoning strong narratives, Riley focused more on producing a video that feels abstract while still being human. It’s about small town life, but also not, it’s about being an outsider, but also not, it’s about nothing and a lot, all at the same time.”

Despite his seemingly bustling life in rural coastal Canada as a carpenter, surfer, and nature lover, Devarrow’s upcoming new album, Heart Shaped Rock – defies any notion of musical complacency. Rooted in a deep appreciation for simplicity, he finds solace in stepping away from technology, relishing the quiet moments with morning coffee by his wood stove. Through Heart Shaped Rock, Devarrow enthusiastically embraces the mission to revitalize the folk genre, acknowledging his own troubled relationship with it. It is a captivating journey through love, loss, and self-discovery.

At the core of Devarrow’s music lies vulnerable lyrics, offering an unfiltered yet relatable glimpse into the life of a millennial navigating meaning in small-town Canada. Rather than shying away from the depth of folk music, Devarrow navigates it with respect and a desire to bring new perspective to the genre, along with a hope that we all somehow, get to a place where we collectively care less about things that don’t actually matter, while somehow caring more about things that do.
