COUNTDOWN TO OTTAWA’S DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL – INTERVIEW WITH THE HALLIONS

The Hallions play Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival on June 21 at 6:30 pm

Since their inception in 2016, The Hallions have taken Canada by storm with their high-energy Celtic Rock music.

The band released their self-titled EP in 2018, featuring the tracks “Take Me Back,” “Reign of Queen Maeve,” and more.

Their new album is in the works, and the single, “Dead Man’s Gold” will drop in August 2024.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are a Celtic Punk Rock band from Glengarry, Ontario. The Hallions took Celtic charm and gave it some grit. Our stage presence and unique sound will give you a show to remember. The fiery fiddle, rugged vocals, mandolin, and banjo add a different touch to an otherwise punk rock band. Get ready to two step and headbang!

Tell us about your most recent release.

We have recently finished our first full-length album. Our new single “Dead Man’s Gold” is set to hit all platforms in August 2024.

What excites you most about performing at the Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival?

As we mentioned before, we’ve come out of the studio. We are very excited to be playing our new songs live! We are ready and coming out swinging!

How important is it for you to play at festivals like Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, who promote Canadian music exclusively?

It’s very important to have Canadian festivals that cater to Canadian performers, it helps support the livelihood of our performing artists. It’s not easy to sustain such a career these days. We have an incredible passion for music and our heritage. Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival gives Canadian artists a chance to expose our great musicians and bands in this country.

How do you engage with a diverse festival audience, which might include people who are hearing your music for the first time?

Our music has an immense diverse outreach. If it’s your first time listening to Celtic punk rock music, just let your feet do the talking!

Are there any other acts or events at the festival that you’re excited to check out?

Honestly, yes. We’ve heard plenty a great things and are excited to venture through the grounds early on before we start performing.

Last but not least, besides the music portion, what part of Dragon Boat Festival piques your interest?

We were looking forward to seeing some races. Unfortunately, the races are only run on Saturday and Sunday. We must hit the road on Saturday morning for our next show. Maybe we’ll be able to sneak in a race or two before leaving.
