Indie/Rock Band The Hi Tops Release Full-Length Album Lips, Hips, and Counterfeits

Calgary band, The Hi Tops release their debut full-length LP Lips, Hips, and Counterfeits. The release arrives after lead singles “Waking Up”, “Easing Riding”, and “Break Apart”.

Lead vocalist Kole shares.

“The album inspires all feelings throughout the emotional spectrum. Happiness, despair, motivation for change, altruism, self deprivation, introspection, depression, and confidence. All backed by high tempo energy, and carefully crafted melodies. As one of the people who created the album and have listened to it obsessively, I find the album compliments a wide range of activities. Whether you’re actively listening, running, working out, studying, hanging with friends, there are few places where the album doesn’t fit.”,

The Hi Tops melds their indie/rock implosion with dashes of modern psychedelia, hard-rock, shoe gaze, alt/rock, and grunge. But at the end of the day, the band are bound to no specific genre. With an innate motivation to consistently create, and create what they want, The Hi Tops have released songs that carry their own groove and their own swagger. Every idea is explored to the fullest and adapts and evolves from its conception.

Lips, Hips, and Counterfeits is the band’s debut: one that represents a culmination of their hardest work and favorite ideas to date. This album also represents their first step in a new direction, working with a new producer – Josh Rob Gwilliam (Miesha and the Spanks, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Jann Arden, Julius Sumner Miller, Ghost Keeper, Gone Cosmic, JJ Shiplett), a new studio – OCL Studio, and a revised recording process to perfect their sound.

Kole Halvorson explains,

“The thing that inspires The Hi-Tops the most is each other. When we became a band in the summer of 2018, it would be a lie if any of us told you we knew what we were doing. Now, almost 6 years later, it inspires us that we have all developed into capable musicians and every day we look to improve as individuals and as a team. To me, the most impactful inspiration to create this album was progress. A tangible product that shows how far we have come, and how much further we can go.”

From mellow shades to heavy jams, The Hi Tops show through their music how far they’ve come, and how much further they can go. Stay tuned for more from The Hi Tops…
