Shawnee Kish shares new single, “Dear Dad”

JUNO NOMINATED SINGER-SONGWRITER SHAWNEE KISH RELEASES HEARTFELT NEW SINGLE “DEAR DAD”

Acclaimed singer-songwriter and Mohawk artist Shawnee Kish delivers a poignant tribute to her late father with her deeply personal new single, “Dear Dad”, available now. Showcasing Kish’s extraordinary ability to transform profound experiences into compelling and heartfelt lyrics, the genesis of “Dear Dad” was the heartbreaking loss of her father at the young age of ten. A testament to her strength and talent for creating music that resonates deeply with listeners, “Dear Dad” is a moving musical journey, and Kish fittingly honours her father’s memory with a powerful addition to her already impressive body of work.

“It was Father’s Day and I was 10 years old when I found out my dad had passed in the middle of the night,” shares Kish. “As a child, it was hard to understand what goodbye really meant. Growing up without him continued to grow harder and as an adult, I find myself wishing there was just one more conversation we could sit and have where I could ask him questions, see how he’s doing, and find out if he can see who I have become and how I live my life with as much heart as he did. It took me 27 years to find the words I needed to sing. I just wasn’t ready for the goodbye.

Earlier this year, Kish earned two nominations at the 2024 JUNO Awards for her album Revolution, including Adult Alternative Album of the Year and her second nod in Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year, her distinctive and powerful soul voice continuing to set her apart. Revolution showcased a unique collection of tracks that featured numerous collaborations with fellow Canadian artists, each contributing to a diverse range of musical styles and influences.

Kish has been busy writing and in-studio recording new music, developing a new body of work of her most raw and vulnerable creations yet, and was recently named one of TikTok’s 2024 Indigenous Visionary Voices. Beyond her music, Kish’s impact extends into her activism, with a focused support on youth mental health, the LGBTQIA+ community, and Indigenous communities. Shawnee Kish isn’t just a musician; she’s a force for change, using her voice to empower, heal, and inspire.
