Canada’s biggest latin music festival, Fuego Fuego starts today! We sat down with Jace Carrillo, a Venezuelan-Canadian singer based in Montreal, who will be hitting the stage this afternoon!
1. Hola Jace! First off, can you introduce yourself to our readers who might not know you?
Mucho gusto!! I’m Jace Carrillo, a Latin-Canadian artist located in the beautiful city of Montreal. I moved out like 8 years ago from Venezuela, and since then I’ve been on a space mission trying to bring people together through my tunes, blending some R&B Pop with latin sounds, and breaking some language barriers in the middle.
2. Tell us about Phenomena, your latest album!
Phenomena is a journey I started more than 2 years ago, through my heart and soul. It’s my second album, filled with love experiences, and comparing poetic lyrics with space. I found through the album values of unity, diversity, and self-acceptance. One of the highlights for that album was my song “Eclipse”, which topped the charts here in Canada. Each track on Phenomena has its own story, and I’m so proud of the love it’s getting across my new country.
3. This was your first time at Fuego Fuego! How are you feeling?
Muy emocionado! Fuego Fuego is the biggest Latin music festival in Canada, and performing there was a dream come true…It’s been years I’ve been working hard to build that kind of opportunity! I brought a full live band with me to light up the stage with some serious energy…especially because I was not necessarily performing reggaeton! Which was one of the things people were expecting as music, so I had to create that contrast.
For me, sharing this moment with fans here in town, new audiences, and other amazing artists that were there…it was simply unforgettable. I can’t wait to see where else life gets me!
4. If given the chance, which Canadian artist would you like to collaborate with?
There are so many talented artists here, honestly…we could talk about them all day…
But If I had a vote, If I can think big, then I’d like to keep expanding the R&B/Pop, blending cultures, languages, and styles…
I’d love to team up with Talk, Alexander Stewart, Rêve, Elijah Woods, Lennon Stella and why not Shawn Mendes, or Justin Bieber?
5. Anything we should be keeping an eye out for from you in the future? (Any upcoming releases, shows or other projects?)
Claro que sí! Besides my Fuego Fuego performance, my new single “Aurora” is dropping on May 31st, so don’t miss that on all digital platforms.
I’m working on a Deluxe version of the album “Phenomena”. I’m also planning more shows later this year. And keep an eye out for some exclusive merchandise (finally!!).
I’ll be going to Toronto on June 12th at bar Tapestry, for the NXNE Fest 2024…I’m really excited about that!!
I’ll be a father (I KNOW!!) in a couple of months…so looking forward to seeing which songs are coming with that experience!
And after, who knows…the universe is too big to explore, but I’m pretty sure we’ll see each other again!!
