Michael Bernard Fitzgerald Announces New Album, Horizon Lines
Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (MBF), the Canadian and Calgary-based singer-songwriter is known for his heartfelt melodies and simple, honest lyrics that resonate deeply with listeners. Fitzgerald’s warm and calm sound is marked by a profound, unfeigned commitment to making songs that feel hopeful and inspire connection.
On September 27, 2024, following the success of his most acclaimed record to date, Love Valley, (2020) Fitzgerald is set to release his 6th full-length album, Horizon Lines (via Treasure Island Records/Fontana). Created throughout the transformative journey of entering fatherhood, Michael’s new music continues to weave together soulful sounds and introspective words, reaffirming a dedication to crafting songs that speak to the heart. Today, Fitzgerald releases Horizon Lines’ first single, “After A While.” It’s a track and project that MBF has been working on since 2021 with friend and producer Josh Rob Gwilliam. The duo began writing and tracking over Zoom sessions, finishing the tracking at OCL Studios, and mixed the album together in Josh’s garage.
“I think ‘After a While’ does a good job of encapsulating what things feel like these days,” says Michael. “The pressure seems to be up post-pandemic and I think we’re also all a little drained. Long stretches of time seem to race by, I’m sure that’s maybe just the way things are with a big family and packed schedules, but I think it’s also a shared experience as we’re all working at finding our way again. This track mixes a few musical elements that I love: direct, calm, focused, effect-sparse vocals, a droning acoustic that feels welcoming and sustained, big, moving drums, eventide synth sounds and very present (sometimes edgy) organ bass.”
Both on and off stage Fitzgerald’s down-to-earth personality is the foundation to the connection he is able to find with both fans and fellow musicians. His warm smile and genuine demeanor compose an approachable charm that instantly puts people at ease in the same way the music does.
