Zach Coopz Shares His Top Picks For The Week

Look who’s back with a batch of the best new music around! You’ve tuned in once again to Canadian Beats for Zach’s Picks Of The Week. This is where I like to highlight some of the incredible articles that were posted on our website this last week. All the articles I will admit are the best I have ever heard, but I chose my top six for you to enjoy. So please be sure to check out the links to each of these individual articles coming up in this post you are reading. But also be sure to explore the rest of our website. Because you never know what could be posted next, that’s why you need to stay in the loop. But right now, we’re gonna get started on this week’s list for Zach’s Picks Of The Week. The best new music around and that’s coming from me!!

Five

Starting off this week is the return of rising Canadian duo, The Goddamsels to Zach’s Picks Of The Week. They continue to tease their debut full-length album with this latest single, “Same Damn Thing”. Available across all streaming platforms, a sparkling, mid-tempo track that adds some pop flavour to their already tried-and-true country/folk sound roots. Following a whirlwind 2023, they saw themselves become one of the most talked-about new acts within the Americana scene. Learn more here.

Four

Next up is our Five Questions With segment with Toronto-based band My Own Money, which you’ll love. They have been carving out a unique space in the Canadian music scene, blending electropop with dance rock. Leaving their audience captivated, defying genre borders, and paving their own path within the industry. The band has unveiled their lead single “Dark As A Dungeon,” ahead of their performance at this year’s NXNE in their city of Toronto and the release of their new EP, Disco Asbestos. That will be coming out this summer, but be sure to go check out our Five Questions With segment here.

Three

Coming up now, Montreal’s DVTR has been shaking up the Canadian punk scene, racking up dazzling coverage for themselves. Being considered for the Best of 2024 lists, sold-out shows, and some bootlicking awards for their first-ever EP, Bonjour. However recently, the duo has unveiled a music video for their single, “Les Flics” which you can find in the article posted on our website. The band is currently in the middle of their UK/France tour but also has some upcoming Canadian dates. So you can find those tour dates, and the music video for for the new single all within our Five Questions With segment, here.

Two

This week’s second top spot will be going to Afro-Canadian artist Kofi. His latest single, “Impatient” is making waves across all streaming platforms. It was released with help from Red Bull Records / The Orchard and this track marries the hypnotic rhythms of Afrobeats with the soulful essence of R&B. Accompanied by a stunning time-lapse visualizer, the latest single paints a poignant picture of a relationship fading into the background. Head on over to our article where you can find the brand new music video for “Impatient”, plus our Five Questions With segment with Kofi here.

BONUS: Canadian Beats Passport

Time for this week’s very special international artist to be featured on our list of the best new music. All the way from the state of Texas, Aline Garza delivers her powerful and utterly necessary message in her new single “Superhero”. Its upbeat, hopeful, and catchy melody evokes nostalgia with a 2010 Pop/R&B sound and spreads a heartwarming message to all bullying and harassment victims. Sadly, like millions of kids across the globe, Aline experienced an isolating feeling at the age of 10 years old, which sparked her to write and sing about it. Please be sure to go read up on our Canadian Beats passport bonus recommendation of the week, Aline Garza, and her latest single “Superhero” right here.

One

This will be my final recommendation on our list for this week. It’s Canadian country artist Justine Blanchet, who’s celebrating her current single, “First Love”. Available now across all streaming platforms, she recently dropped a live piano rendition on YouTube. Produced as a clear vocally-driven country song with added pop influences, “First Love” also features vocals provided by another Music City-based Canadian, Ben Chase. It is the first offering of new music from Blanchet since her debut EP, Don’t Ask Me to Dance was released in 2023. So you better head on over to our article here.
