CHXMERAS Unveil Haunted Debut Album Terminal City – Out Now

CHXMERAS Unveils Debut Album, Terminal City

Vancouver Duo Explore Lost Futures in Their Genre-Bending Electronic Release

CHXMERAS intricately weaves angular dub, ambient, techno, noise, and dynamic rhythms to construct hypnotic soundscapes. Led by UK/Canadian Paul Finlay and nêhiyaw/Denesuline artist Jarrett Martineau, the duo delivers an immersive electronic experience brimming with darkness and urgency.

Terminal City, their inaugural offering, bridges past and future. Reflecting on Finlay’s industrial upbringing in the UK and Martineau’s experiences amidst Vancouver’s gentrification, the album resonates as a poignant exploration of contemporary urban landscapes.

Speaking on the album, CHXMERAS says,

“This record feels haunted. It’s like a lost soundtrack that we uncovered. As we were recording it, we started to hear echoes in the songs…of the landscapes we grew up around, of the personal losses and transformations in our own lives, and of the cities we grew up in and now call home. Terminal City gives form to those feelings and experiences. It’s like our attempt to capture the echoes of the futures we imagined, but that never arrived.”

Along with the album, CHXMERAS released the mesmerizing track “W.P.S.” (Wilton Power Station) and its accompanying music video crafted by Vancouver visual artist Laine Butler. Inspired by structures like the Wilton Power Station, Terminal City ventures into hallucinatory realms where past, present, and future converge.
