Country Artist, Karli June Shares Powerful Anthem, “Still Makes Cowgirls”
Canadian country singer-songwriter Karli June has unveiled her scorching new single “Still Makes Cowgirls.”
Crafted by Karli herself and award-winning songwriter Deric Ruttan (known for his work with Blake Shelton, Eric Church, and Dierks Bentley), and produced by Ruttan, “Still Makes Cowgirls” is a testament to authenticity. The track showcases a woman proudly embracing her rustic country roots while declaring her depth and passion to potential suitors.
With a slow burn that builds into a powerful anthem, Karli’s confident twang soars over classic country elements like pedal steel guitar and B3 organ, infused with modern pop flair. Get ready to be captivated by Karli June’s unique blend of country tradition and contemporary sound.
First off, what have you been up to since we last spoke?
I’ve been working hard in the studio on a bunch of new music and gearing up for the festival season this summer!
Can you share the inspiration behind your new single, “Still Make Cowgirls”?
I grew up on a farm in Ontario which has really shaped me into who I am. I learned strength from watching my parents work hard all day long. I’ve learned from my community about living with passion and standing my ground – these roots have never really left me and the song is a PSA that girls like us are still around.
How was your experience collaborating with award-winning songwriter Deric Ruttan on “Still Make Cowgirls”? What was the creative process like?
It was awesome! Deric is such a genuine and easy person to work with. He came from rural Ontario as well so when I brought this idea to him it was great that he could understand where I came from and the message that I was trying to convey through the song.
Congratulations on your four CMA Ontario Award nominations! How does it feel to receive such recognition for your work, particularly with “Feel Like Home”?
It feels amazing! I love the Ontario country music family and it’s always such a fun weekend of celebrating all of the amazing talent in Ontario.
In what ways do you stay connected with your fans, especially considering the importance of live performances and social media engagement?
I am very active on socials and love reaching new listeners through avenues like TikTok and really building that community of people who will connect with my songs.
What can fans expect from your upcoming sophomore EP, slated for early 2025?
High energy country – but also a really special ballad as well that’s very personal to me. All songs are about more of who I am. Can’t wait!
