DVTR – Five Questions With

Montreal’s DVTR Releases Video for “Les Flics” & Tours UK/ France

In the past six months, Montreal’s DVTR has been shaking up the Canadian punk scene, racking up dazzling reviews, Best of 2024 lists, sold-out shows, and some bootlicking awards for their first-ever EP, Bonjour.

The duo has unveiled a music video for their single, “Les Flics” and are in the middle of their UK / France tour, with Canadian dates to follow!

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We’re Demi Lune and Jean Divorce we do fast music.

Fast music is for all, even slow people

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

« Les flics » is a song about cops, precisely shitbag cops. We kinda like saying important or pissed off things, but in a cheerful way, and this song might be the culmination of that.

There’s also this really wonderful animated video for the single that we’d love everyone to watch, please.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

1. Guitar straight in computer

2. Coke into rhum

3. Think about something outrageous

4. Get angry

5. Create a banger

6. Cash in

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

Yo, we have a lot of stuff going on, because of some mystic magic or something we currently have a lot of finished songs « in the bank » ready to go. Just need to plan those darned music videos and get them out. We’re currently touring the UK and France and will be coming back to Quebec to do a lot of festivals – then we’re planning some international stuff once again, mainly France. We have some nice discussions about some mysterious exotic destinations that we might visit. Anyhow the planetary conquest is going smooth and naturally, we’re riding the wave blablabla.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

So we really like rhum & coke, especially before shows. You know, we get tired from the road and soundcheck and all that shit, and with that drink, you can get that sugar rush/alcohol kick at the same time, it’s a perfect blend to get into it and not passing out during a show (happened for real). Alas, Jean Divorce is pretty fragile with sugar, so chugging 3 rhum and cokes before hitting the stage was a bit intense for the little man. So we’d say that a big turning point was discovering the solution to this sad problem: did you know you can call rhum and coke DIET in bars? That was a game-changer. Barmen and barmaids judge you a bit too, that’s a shame. Demi Lune is all fine with the big sugar though she does not need diet stuff.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

Alias gave us cigarettes last night in Edinburgh so we like him now, you should check him out and tell us if his music is any good.
