Experimental pop artist N NAO unveils new EP, Miroir
N NAO (Montréal, QC) presents Miroir, an oneiric stream featuring 3 pieces around the themes of witchcraft, secrecy, and spirals. A collage of improvised sessions spanning 3 years, produced alongside Sylvain Deschamps (Klô Pelgag, Flore Laurentienne), the EP, out now via Mothland, plays akin to a lighthearted escapade where daydreaming is met with subtle subliminal hallucinations, as the experimental pop artist ponders on the imperceptible and the mysteries of the subconscious.
Naomie de Lorimier shares,
“‘Miroir’ was the first piece from the EP to emerge, its composition starting 3 years ago. I recorded an improvisation on the piano at home, then added choirs and cassette excerpts, outtakes from L’eau et les rêves. I improvised the vocal melody live during a DJ set in the Summer of 2021. The lyrics are freeform poetry, written after viewing the Super 8 video works of Ana Mendieta, which resonated deeply with me. The ethereal rhythms were developed on tour with Charles Marsolais-Ricard on electronic sampling and Samuel Gougoux on drums, as we improvised while performing L’eau et les rêves live. We recorded multiple layers with Sylvain at his studio, improvising with different keyboards: synthesizers, synth bass, marimba and vibraphone. The pure, minimalist lyrics leave room for melodies, also unveiling all that’s secretly hidden between the lines. With Miroir, time stretches.“
