Rising Canadian Country Artist Taylor-Rae Shares New EP, Honest
Rising Canadian country artist Taylor-Rae has recently shared her new EP, Honest, a collection of six tracks that showcase her raw originality and dynamic versatility as displayed in the EP’s title track “Honest”.
Taylor-Rae’s journey as an artist is a testament to her authenticity and resilience.
In her own words,
“The release of my EP Honest has truly been a journey of coming into my own as an artist and finding my voice. Capping off this project with the focus track “Honest” feels so fitting as it encompasses so many of the ups and downs I have felt throughout the process of finding my lane in Country Music. This EP is putting a bow on this era of music and I couldn’t be more excited to share it.”
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! I’m Taylor-Rae and I’m a Country Artist from Edmonton, Alberta now living in Nashville.
Congratulations on the release of your EP Honest! Care to share on the creative process behind the release?
Thank you, I’m so excited to have it out! This EP is something that has been in the works for quite some time and it was definitely a group effort. I’ve gotten to collaborate with so many incredible people from my Producers to photographers and I’m so happy with how it all came together. This was a project that helped me hone in on who I am as an artist and where I want to sit in this industry, so we were really thoughtful about which songs would be a part of it!
The EP includes six tracks that showcase your raw originality and dynamic versatility. Can you highlight any specific themes or narratives that run through the songs?
I mean, there are a few different subject lines but I am definitely a sucker for a good breakup song, haha! I write a lot when things are weighing heavy on me and I think that definitely comes through in the EP.
Your journey as an artist has been marked by authenticity and resilience. How do you think your experiences have shaped the sound and themes explored in your music, particularly on this new EP?
Wow, that’s a good question! I have had the opportunity to be surrounded and influenced by so many different types of music and it has definitely taken me a minute to figure out the best way to combine those things and make my “sound”. Growing up my Dad would play everything from Garth Brooks to Heart and I just loved it all. Then after moving to Vancouver for school, I joined a soul choir and it completely opened my world to that genre. There is something about singing with a choir and getting to let yourself go off and SING in a song. It made me want to figure out how to incorporate that feeling into my own music.
I’m a work in progress, but throughout this project, I have been able to experiment with my sound and I’m really excited to see where my music is headed!
As a Nashville-based artist with roots in Alberta, how do you navigate the intersection of these two musical landscapes, and how does it influence your songwriting and artistic identity?
I think since moving down to Nashville and being immersed in the talent down here, I have found a certain level of confidence in what I am doing. When you are able to work on music and songwriting every single day, it can really elevate everything.
There is an endless amount of talent in Alberta and in an industry where everyone is so connected, the distance between Alberta and Nashville tends to not feel all that big.
Last but not least, what goals or milestones do you hope to achieve in your career over the next few years?
The goal list seems to keep getting longer and longer, but one that stands out for myself, and I’m sure so many other artists, is to play the Grand Ole Opry. I’m just putting it out in the world and maybe we can make that happen.
