Lee Aaron Shares New Album, Tattoo Me

With 18 albums under her belt and a recent induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame, Lee Aaron is making waves with her latest venture: a covers album titled Tattoo Me. In this interview, we’ll explore the inspiration behind the album, the eclectic mix of tracks, and Aaron’s enduring passion for music. Join us as we uncover the sonic journey of Tattoo Me and delve into the legendary career of Lee Aaron in the world of rock ‘n’ roll.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Lee Aaron! I’m a Canadian Rock singer (songwriter, producer, and performer) who has had many hits over the years here in Canada. I have been recording since the 80s and was one of the first-ever Canadian women doing a harder style of rock music. You can find my music on Spotify and Apple Music and I still release CDs and vinyl. I also have many, many videos all over YouTube. The best place to find all things Lee Aaron is my website: www.leeaaron.com.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

TATTOO ME is the name of my most recent album. It’s a covers album – my first. We’ve done our own versions of some cool tunes by Heart, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Hole, Alice Cooper, and more. It’s very fun and very rockin’!! I’d never done a full covers album before so this one was a big musical adventure. Being an interpreter of other people’s songs, and doing it well is an art in itself.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

I’ve been writing songs for over 40 years and the longer I do it the less I feel I know, ha, ha! Every time you create a song it comes together differently. I carry a lyric book around all the time so sometimes they start as a word concept or poem that evolves into a song when I bring it to the band with a couple of chords. Sometimes my guitarist (Sean Kelly) will send a riff or chord pattern that inspires me to write a specific theme – and sometimes we just get together and jam and I step up to the mic and sing a bunch of jibberish that sounds pretty good and half of it ends up actually becoming the song. One thing I do know for sure is that if it’s not coming together organically and fairly quickly it’s probably best to shelve it for another day or it will sound forced.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

The album drops on April 26th worldwide and we have quite a few Canadian dates booked already. There are videos for the first 2 singles on YouTube and the

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

Last year, receiving a Canada’s Walk of Fame Award was a great honor and a highlight. When I started singing harder-style rock in the ‘80s, there were a lot of obstacles to overcome in terms of sexism on the music front and also in the boardroom. All I ever wanted was to be taken seriously as a musician and songwriter so The Walk of Fame felt pretty darn validating!

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

There are so many cool female-fronted Canadian bands now! I really dig The Beaches, JJ Wilde, Fefe Dobson, and Vilivant. All of those gals rock!
