JILL BARBER UNVEILS “DE TEMPS EN TEMPS” FROM ENCORE! OUT JUNE 14, 2024
Jill Barber unveils a stunning version of the great Joséphine Baker’s classic “De temps en temps”, taken from her forthcoming album. ENCORE! marks the ten-year anniversary of Jill’s best-selling debut francophone album, Chansons, and sees her team up once again with Grammy Award-nominated producer Drew Jurecka (Dua Lipa, Alvvays, Dermot Kennedy). Jill will be performing her new interpretations of classic French songs by Joséphine Baker, Charles Trenet, Blossom Dearie, Django Reinhardt, and Edith Piaf at Jazz Festivals across the country this summer including Toronto and Halifax Jazz Festival.
Anglophone Joséphine Baker made “De temps en temps” famous back in 1939 and would go on to become one of France’s biggest stars.
“At the time it was risqué for a woman to sing about her desire for physical affection without the need for a relationship,” says Jill, “and I believe it’s still quite sexy and empowering today”.
Ten years ago, Jill found herself at an intensive French immersion school in the south of France that culminated in the recording of an album of classic French songs ranging from Edith Piaf to Serge Gainsbourg. A decade later, this album- Chansons- has been streamed over 120 million times and is currently on its 4th vinyl pressing. The album took Jill to travel the world, playing in France, Austria, Japan, and Mexico, as well as several jazz festivals across Canada.
Jill is a three-time JUNO Award nominee and Sirius XM Jazz Artist of the Year. Along with multiple regional awards and a Polaris Prize nomination, her album Chances was certified Gold, with her albums having been streamed over 200 million times around the world.
