Breathe Of My Leaves releases single, “Godzilla” (Single Mix), the final single from the album The Radiant Believers
“Godzilla” is the fourth official single to be lifted from the 13-track album The Radiant Believers which was released last September to critical acclaim, although nine previous singles have been released over the last year and a half before the album’s release. The album has become an industry-wide favourite, being listed in many Best Of lists at the end of 2023, including a few “Album Of The Year” and various “Song Of The Year” pronouncements for multiple songs.
“Godzilla”(Single Mix) is a bombastic circus of a song that entwines the history of the famous monster with an environmental statement.
Barberis explains,
“Godzilla has been my favourite character in film since I was a child. While sitting on his lap, my dad would often tell me stories about a giant monster that breathed fires since he loved the beast from growing up watching the movies in Greece. I remember shaking with excitement and later always pretending to be Godzilla whenever I had to face some sort of challenge.” Stephano continues, “When I wrote the music for the song, it came together so quickly and I was so moved by the pulsing rhythm and the synth-line that felt like it wrote itself in three minutes. It sounds nostalgic, cinematic, sci-fi, and tragic but also oddly uplifting, and Jordan felt it was so colourful. But Jordan knew how much of a fan I was so it took him nine months to finish the vocals and make sure his lyrics did the legend justice.l asked him to watch all the Legendary movies where he’s a hero who has been on this planet for 250 million years to protect the balance of nature but to also make sure we used him as an environmental metaphor as to what we are doing to the planet. He came back with lyrics that filled my eyes with tears; he nailed it so ideally. The vocal files were sent titled“ Tree Planter Song,” a commentary on the subject matter.”
Then Stephano reveals something quite crazy about the song.
“What I didn’t know until much later was that not only was Jordan afraid of getting it wrong with millions of Godzilla fans (and myself) but that he had a lung infection after swimming in a river the week I gave him the deadline that the song’s vocals had to be completed. He also didn’t have the use of a mic during that week…so he sang the vocals directly into the built-in mic of his MacBook Pro, hoping it would buy me time to work around the temporary vocals until he could record his usual proper vocals. I fell in love with the raw and “monstrous” nature of the vox and decided to keep them. Even his deep chant was done by singing as low as he could. It’s a story we’ll never forget about a frantic time in the recording of The Radiant Believers album. In this new Single Mix, I wanted it to sound like you are waging war right from the start of the song.”
The six-track remix EP single includes that reimagined, histrionic, new over-the-top single mix, plus astounding remixes by some of the best new and established remixers in the synth-pop genre: Vancouver’s own super-talented young producer and DJ wizard Astrochild, heavyweight synth legend Darwin McD, brilliant synth-pop maven Secret Space Program, renowned and incredible synth-pop artist Zinqmind, plus exalted analogue synthesizer deity Rezfilter.

All of the singles became runaway hits on electronic and pop radio stations across North America, Europe/UK, Australia, and the Middle East. As a foreshadow to 2023’s incredibly successful year, all three singles from 2022 were listed in many “Best Of 2022” lists, with “Sweet Music Man” being honoured with Best Song Of 2022 by synth-pop juggernaut Jimm Kjelgaard’s The Sol Of Synthpop weekly radio show, amongst being listed as the top song of the year by other DJ’s as well as industry titan Kurt Sinclair-Hall of Big Satsuma Radio.
