Queens of the Stone Age & The Struts

Wednesday night, the Scotiabank Centre was the scene for one of the loudest concerts that I have ever been to, and I am ok with that!
I won’t go into the ordeal of a 20-minute drive taking two hours thanks to heavy congestion of traffic and zero parking in the Halifax downtown core. As any Haligonian knows, that is to be expected, usually not on a Wednesday night though.
We arrived at the venue about 30 minutes pre-show time and waited for the rest of the photo gang to arrive. Everyone was stuck in traffic, and everyone was stressed, but thankfully, everyone arrived in time to get our badges and get in the pit for one of the greatest new showmen rock bands out there, The Struts!
Luke Spiller is a combination of all the greats! Bowie, Freddie, Mic, you name it! The quintessential rock and roll frontman. As the band took to the stage, they made a lasting impression on those who were not sure who The Struts were, or only knew them from their hits played on local rock stations.
They opened their 8 songs with “Primadonna Like Me.” And then followed with Banger after Banger for their full set. Luke worked the stage with Adam and Jed to get the crowd revved up for some face-melting rock and roll!
Sidenote, I want to apologize to the band for the lack of audience at the beginning of the show, again, TWO HOURS TO GET TO THE VENUE WHEN IT NORMALLY TAKES 20 MINUTES! Most of the concertgoers were in traffic, finding parking, and going into the venue. By the end of their set, the floor and most of the seats were full.
After the Struts completed their set (too soon in my opinion, I could have used another 5 songs from them), we patiently waited for the main act, the Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA).
QOTSA started off their set strong one knows! Once they started, the band and the audience did not stop. After I finished shooting the first three songs, I proceeded to my seat to watch everything unfold. The number of ladies (and one gentleman) making questionable choices, the crowd surfing, the mosh pit, Bubbles (Trailer Park Boys) making a guest appearance…. It was all so much! Everyone LOVED the very loud and very “melt your face off” concert.
I cannot wait for The Struts to come back and headline a show at the Scotiabank Centre. They have what it takes to put butts in the seats!
