Montreal’s clay pigeon unveils “here & now” from upcoming LP
clay pigeon is the new musical venture of Canadian songwriter James Clayton, who is also the guitarist for The Franklin Electric. With a diverse musical background spanning from the Berlin open mic scene to touring Europe and working with notable Canadian bands, James brings a wealth of experience to his latest project.
Teaming up with recording engineer Howard Bilerman at the historic Hotel2Tango studio, James and his band crafted their debut LP, The Aching Taste of Blue. Born from a collection of songs written during Montreal’s dreary winter, this album promises to captivate listeners with its emotive storytelling and rich musical textures.
Today marks the release of the third of five singles leading up to the July 19th release of the album via AWAL.
James shares,
“Here & Now is probably my favourite song on the record. It was the first one I wrote for the project and served as a gateway into a new style of guitar playing and vocal delivery that now feels like second nature. I also distinctly remember knowing what I wanted to convey before the writing process, which is rare for me but I think helped the convey the sentiment. It’s been three years since I wrote it and it still feels effortless, which is also rare.”
Quote from Editor
“‘Here and Now’ reflects on life’s fleeting moments, exploring human emotion with evocative lyrics and soulful melodies. It emphasizes being fully present, celebrating the beauty and complexity of our experience.”
Catch their headline release show on 07/19 in Montreal, their current home city, followed by a 6-date Ontario tour.
