Pranatricks – Elements Of (Album Review)

Artist: Pranatricks
Album: Elements Of
Release Date: April 4, 2024
Genre: Folk

Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer Pranatricks returns with his sophomore album, Elements of.

Beginning in the summer of 2023, only a few months after his debut album Cherished was released in full, Pranatricks began following a release schedule that featured seven singles. Releasing a new song every six weeks was a daunting task, but it appears to be a strategy that is paying off as recent press and blog coverage of the singles have been overwhelmingly positive. The album can now be consumed in its entirety, which best reflects the indie, psych, folk artists’ intention for the project

Drawing parallels to his debut, Elements of embarks on a journey through snapshots of experiences spanning 15 years, reshaping ideas rediscovered from old hard drives and previous jam spaces. Utilizing instruments no longer owned, the album reflects both past and present, crafting a meandering sonic exploration akin to gazing into a starlit sky, intertwining past and present narratives while suggesting boundless potential.

The album starts off with “Cor-al,” a song that vividly depicts a complicated relationship filled with deceiving appearances and conflicting emotions. The narrator wrestles with the contradictory aspects of their partner, recognizing the attraction and the potential danger they pose. Despite the underlying darkness, there’s a feeling of acceptance and resilience conveyed through the repeated phrase “But I don’t mind,” indicating a readiness to confront the tumultuous nature of love.

“Crosshairs” explores the challenge of facing adversity, encouraging listeners to confront their inner struggles directly. Set against a slightly gritty instrumental backdrop, the song vividly depicts the human experience with imagery like burning lights and scenes of camaraderie in bars. As the track progresses, it builds towards a powerful climax, conveying a message of defiance and urging listeners to find strength and solace in the present moment amidst life’s chaos.

Birds and the Bees” spins a mesmerizing tale using creative language and metaphors, set against a folk rock backdrop that amplifies the emotional depth of the lyrics, creating a truly wow-worthy experience.

Worlds” is a thought-provoking and evocative song that skillfully weaves together nature-inspired metaphors with themes of connection, transience, and moving forward.

With its captivating storytelling, Elements of creates a feeling of connection and understanding among listeners.
