ANNOUNCES UPCOMING PERFORMANCES AT NXNE, TINY LIGHTS FESTIVAL, SPRING REVERB and HOMETOWN MONTREAL SHOW ON MAY 26th!
This past week, Alternative-Rock artist Ballsy (the solo venture of JUNO Master Class winner Caveboy’s synth-bassist Isabelle Banos) released her debut EP, Bisou, and shared the single, “Eulogy.”
“This is the record I dreamed of making when I was a lonely teenager teaching myself Green Day covers on my first guitar alone in my bedroom,” shares Ballsy. “It’s simple, it’s raw, and it’s filled with imperfections that I would have been too scared to share even just a couple of years ago. I don’t care anymore. This is something I made, from scratch, for me, and I’m really proud of it.”
Ballsy wowed the crowd at JUNOFEST 2024 in Halifax, leaving a lasting impression. CBC Music shared,
“Ballsy gave a fun pop-rock performance filled with memorable melodies and hooks.”
Today, she reveals her upcoming mini-spring tour, kicking off with a hometown show in Montreal. Fans can catch her electrifying performances at Spring Reverb in Kingston, ON, NXNE in Toronto, ON, and the Tiny Lights Festival in Ymir, BC. Find all the details below and HERE.
Drawing inspiration from the golden era of pop-punk, the raw teen angst of grunge, and the nostalgic glow of a summer day in the suburbs, Ballsy’s music is an explosive fusion of infectious hooks, unfiltered emotion, and a captivating blend of indie rock and pop. The EP features previously released singles “Person,” Joe Millionaire,” a cheeky little rage anthem all about the climate emergency; “Holy Water,” a track about Ballsy’s personal experience being indoctrinated and manipulated by the adults she trusted while growing up; and “Be Your Baby,” a song about uncovering and moving through some tough feelings around her dysfunctional upbringing, while also encouraging her to explore and discover her sound.
It also includes the song “Wannabe,” which is the first genuine love song she’s ever written.
“I wrote it for someone who didn’t even know how I felt,” shares Ballsy. “Writing it actually helped me confirm and validate the way I was really feeling about them and gave me the courage to tell them. I’ll always associate this song with the best feelings.”
The album closer is the brand-new single “Eulogy“.
“I’m not the only one who wonders what their funeral will be like right?!” She continues, “During an amazing songwriting retreat with my closest friends and bandmates, the idea of writing about my funeral came to me, and they were so supportive of helping me work through some interesting feelings about life, death, friendship, and not waiting until it’s too late to do and say the stuff that really makes life worth living.”
Today, she shares the official music video for her single “Person,” a song that served as a cathartic expression of both pain and forgiveness and her personal favourite from the EP.
