Kwazii – Five Questions With

Hailing from Brampton, home of international artists Tory Lanez, Roy Woods and WondaGurl, the hip-hop newcomer Kwazii is also setting his mark in Toronto’s music scene and beyond.

Kwazii has been busy working on his Mixtape titled I Was Perfect To Someone, set to release this mid-summer. In the meantime, to keep the growing fanbase locked in, Kwazii is releasing 2 freestyle singles “Eglinton Ave,” and “Reparations.” The 2-song release, entitled “Pisst” is now available on streaming platforms.

“Eglinton” which is produced by Eli Brown and Rayny (credits: PARTYNEXTDOOR, Chris Brown, Giveon, and more) is a recollection of Kwazii’s recent journey in his artistry and being further away from home than usual while battling his conscience and having the foundation of family and friends to keep him grounded.

“Reparations” (produced by Bamt and Maceo) is a vibrant anthem blending confident braggadocious with a playful exploration of black identity, all set against the backdrop of Toronto’s cultural landscape. With effortless flow, Kwazii effortlessly weaves through verses, celebrating heritage and resilience while dropping slick references to the city’s unique slang.

Described as a raw trap/soulful melody artist, Kwazii’s music combines a unique blend of authenticity and gripping emotion that captivates one to listen.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is kwazii I grew up on the west side of Toronto, and music is not only my passion but my lifestyle. I hope to someday leave a legacy behind that inspires someone to do great things like I’ve set out to accomplish. Break the rules and come out on top.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Pisst is a two-track ep that really showcases my two moods right now. In this recent era of artistry, I’ve been feeling strength in solitude and I created these two pieces at different times both times I had no real intention of creating anything but a space to speak my mind. I needed an anthem to remind my supporters that I haven’t forgotten where I started as an artist.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

Top Secret Confidential Information

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

We just dropped one of Canada’s first From The Block freestyles and we have a couple more videos and promotional clips on the way. Can’t say much more but the roll out has officially begun.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

Going to LA for the first time was huge for me. Not only was it my first time out of the country without my family as an adult, but it signified my entry into the music industry. The networking, memories, and life experience gained from that trip will immortalize the experience forever. There’s something about the air over there that brings out a creative lust within me.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

A: Che ecru has been someone I’ve been watching grow for a long time. His entire catalogue embodies this universe that belongs solely to him. I would have to give him his flowers because I relate to him through his versatility and his aura is that of “your favourite artist’s favourite artist”. To see the talent that is still thriving and bringing to life brand new ideas is rare and is inspiring in these times. It’s the type of music that feeds the souls directly.
