The Polaris Music Prize has announced its key dates for the 2024 edition of the prestigious prize!
As a not-for-profit registered charity organization, the Polaris Music Prize annually honours and awards $50,000 to the artist who creates the Canadian album of the year, judged solely on artistic merit, without consideration for genre or record sales by a panel of jurors representing music journalists and broadcasters from across the country. Starting on June 11 at an event at Sonic Boom, Toronto’s marquee music retailer, Polaris will begin with the Long List Announcement, where 40 nominated albums will be announced as being in contention for this year’s Prize. The Short List Announcement on July 11 will then pair down the list of 40 to the list of the 10 finalist albums for 2024.
Finally, on September 17, the Polaris Gala will take over Toronto’s legendary Massey Hall and will announce the Polaris Prize winner; who will be determined by an 11-member Polaris Grand Jury selected from the greater Polaris juror pool. All of this year’s Short List nominees will be invited to perform at the Polaris Gala and the final lineup will be revealed in July.
In addition, following the Polaris Gala, the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize will be determined in October. The Heritage Prize was created to celebrate classic Canadian albums created before Polaris began in 2006; and like the Polaris Music Prize, the winners and nominees of the Heritage Prize are albums of the highest artistic distinction, without regard to sales or affiliations.
Tickets to this year’s Polaris Gala are on sale now via the Massey Hall website; and as a special incentive for dedicated music lovers, Polaris is offering 15% off all tickets purchased before March 28, using the promo code POLARIS15.
