Speaking about the single “Oleander,” Shiplett shares,

Oleander is a song about balance – a beautiful flower in bloom that is poisonous to the touch. The good & the bad. The lyrics came to me over time, as I stepped into my future as a father, and reflected on, reckoned with, my past – my own father’s death.” He continues, “The song is about embracing the chaos and the harmony of it all. You can spend your life fighting it, or you can learn to face life head-on with gratitude for the ups & the downs – the wins & the losses…only then will we have achieved true balance.

Delving into the recording process of “Oleander,” Shiplett explains,

The goal was to build the song around a continuous melody without it becoming stale or boring. Building intrigue through dynamics and intention.
