Canadiana Singer Tyler Del Pino Searches for Humanity Within New Out of a Clear Blue Sky EP
Winnipeg’s Tyler Del Pino has a pure passion for songwriting and an honest sound infused with starry-eyed narratives; a hybrid of rock pop, Americana, and East Coast folk-rock that stays true to the roots of timeless tunes. File him beside James Taylor for his classic songwriting, Sam Roberts for his roughed-up Canadiana style, Mumford and Sons for their anthemic sing-alongs, and Strumbellas for their thoughtful themes and rosy melodies, born and bred in Canada. Backed by his new band The Brasstronautz, audiences will leave with earworms in their heads and hearts full of optimism.
“The inspiration for “The Solution” was born at a time when I found myself caught in a whirlwind of thought and contemplation, deeply concerned about the state of our world,” explains Del Pino about the focus track from his new EP, Out of a Clear Blue Sky.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Tyler Del Pino and I’m a Canadian multi-instrumentalist songwriter/producer hailing from Winnipeg MB. My music is genre-bending, to say the least – it fuses together elements of Rock, Pop, Blues, Folk Americana, Motown, and sometimes even Funk! My sound is a culmination of my musical interests & experiences that when put together creates a distinctive sound that reflects who I am and where I come from.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My latest EP is called “Out Of A Clear Blue Sky” which was written and recorded in 2022. I really focused on dialing in my sound as an artist on this record and I intentionally explored a unique direction. It’s only recently that I started incorporating my skills as a classical trumpet player into my songwriting and with this record, I really tried to take the horn production up a notch. Whereas my last record used horns as an afterthought, with this record I put them at the forefront of my writing allowing the horns to shine and elevate the songs. Last year I started playing with a new live band configuration called Tyler Del Pino & The Brasstronautz and I thought a lot about writing songs that could work well with that band. What you get on this record is a collection of high-octane bangers that pair sensible lyrics with anthemic choruses all cemented in the groove of a hard-hitting big band with a horn section jamming along.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
Currently, the band is booking an EP release show and we’ll likely be doing a tour this summer, but we’re currently finalizing the dates so stay tuned! Stay updated on our upcoming shows by visiting my website, and joining my mailing list
If given the chance, which Canadian artist would you love to work with in the future?
Choosing just one is difficult, but…an artist I’ve always loved is Bryan Adams. I’ve always sensed a similarity in our songwriting styles in some regards because he knows how to write a great chorus, which is something I try to do with every song. Another artist who I truly admire is Tenille Townes, mostly because she’s not afraid to take her country brand into rock and roll territory so I think it’d be super fun to be able to work on a song with someone as talented as her, I feel like our styles would mesh well.
What’s your goal for 2024?
My main focus is to build my audience and engage new fans. You can’t do anything in today’s saturated music market without a community and fans who support what you do, so I mostly want to get out and play as much as I can. I believe life boils down to two things: connecting with people and collecting experiences. Through music, I can engage in both connecting with people and collecting experiences, so I think that’s why I find it so exhilarating. Musically I would really like to start leaning more into my rock roots. I grew up on bands like Led Zeppelin & The Beatles so stylistically I’m excited to see what I can create in that space. Either way, I’m excited for what’s to come. Bring it on 2024!
