Mint Simon & Ballsy (of Caveboy) release new holiday tunes this season
This holiday season, Ballsy & Mint Simon share two brand new collaborative tunes to get you in the spirit – Mint’s pop-inspired “Get Together” and Ballsy’s punk rock gem “omg it’s xmas.” Tapping into the success of their band Caveboy’s rendition of “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” (with over 5 million streams & featured in the movie Happiest Season), the two artists, currently on solo journeys, work exceptionally well together and in a truly synergetic way co-wrote both of the new tracks. You’ll hear from the singles how they genuinely highlight their unique styles and influences. Ballsy (Isabelle Banos) also produced the tracks from her Montreal studio Chez Ballsy.Â
“This is my first original holiday song! Modernizing from my 90s boy band/girl group influences to create this up-tempo, fun, brassy, and fresh celebration. Snaps, claps, horns, and disco strings – I’m bringing (Jewish) queer pop to Christmas,” shares Mint.Â
Ballsy’s tune “omg it’s xmas” takes a bit of a different spin.Â
“I’ve never been a fan of Christmas – mainly due to some family trauma around the holiday (think that Season 2 episode of The Bear…if you know, you know) along with a pretty alienating, too-cool-for-school attitude about the whole thing,” says Ballsy. “Over the past few years, I’ve worked hard to move through those feelings and embrace little pockets of joy around the holiday season wherever I can, so why not go all in and release an unapologetically happy song about Christmas and hopefully sprinkle some joy to others who may not love this time of year. Feels like the most punk rock thing I could do.”
