Chris Goodwin Band shares “Rich Like Ryan Reynolds”

Hailing from Prince George, British Columbia, the Chris Goodwin Band (CGB) is a dynamic four-piece country group that has been captivating audiences in Northern British Columbia since 2019. They’ve gained a strong reputation in Western Canada, headlining events like the 2020 Rooftop Rock Festival and sharing the stage with renowned artists like Dean Brody and Brett Kissel at the 2022 Best Damn Music Fest.

In December 2022, they made a notable debut with their single “Shot of Jack Daniels,” which received widespread acclaim and reached as high as #2 on various independent country music charts in Canada and the UK. Their subsequent release, “Don’t You Wanna Truck?” also found success and earned a spot on SiriusXM Top of the Country channel 171.

The Chris Goodwin Band is gearing up for their self-titled debut EP set to release in December 2023, available on streaming platforms and on vinyl! Until then, enjoy their most recent single, “Rich Like Ryan Reynolds.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey all! Chris here from the Chris Goodwin Band, alongside Patrick Michaud (lead guitar), Steve Smith (bass), and Chester Hewkin (drums). We’re based in Prince George, British Columbia, and have been playing together for the last 4 years. We released our debut single, “Shot of Jack Daniels” in December of 2022 and have since released another 3 songs, including our current single, “Rich Like Ryan Reynolds”.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Our current single, “Rich Like Ryan Reynolds” is a happy, energetic, crowd-pleasing track about various things that aren’t nearly as good as being in love with a partner, including being Rich Like Ryan Reynolds! I wrote the lyrics on this one, and the music was written and arranged (as is all our music) by Pat, Steve, Chester, and myself. It was recorded, mixed, and produced by Connor Pritchard of Pulp City Music in Prince George, BC. The song has a really fun and easy to sing-along to chorus that has made it one of our more popular songs for live audiences.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

We’re currently in songwriting mode as we are heading back into the studio in early January to record our next EP, set for a 2024 release. Besides that, we are headlining a New Year’s Eve show here in Prince George and then gearing up for our 2024 show schedule! Dates are to be announced soon!

If given the chance, which Canadian artist would you love to work with in the future?

The Canadian country music scene is OVERFLOWING with so many talented people right now, I could easily put together a list of 20 for you! But personally, my biggest influence in Canadian country music is Brett Kissel, so he’d be my top choice for sure. Besides being a huge fan of his music, I’ve had the chance to chat with him briefly a few times and he’s just such a kind and genuine dude! As far as I’m concerned, he sets the bar for how to do this job.

I’d also jump at the chance to work with the legendary Mr. Paul Brandt, who was my biggest Canadian country music influence when I was growing up. He’s put together such a great catalogue of music over is career!

What’s your goal for 2024?

2023 has been such an amazing first year for us, and we can’t WAIT to build on that next year. Besides putting out new music, for us 2024 is all hitting the road! We’re really looking forward to getting out there to perform for and meet the folks who have been kind enough to support our music this year.
