First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Sean Taylor Johnston and I’m the lead singer of The Sean Taylor Band. We’re a 6-piece country band hailing from Winnipeg Manitoba.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Cowboy’s Last Ride is a beautiful piece of rodeo music written by Ray Martin, Lyle Foster (the Foster Martin Band), and Austin Cunningham. The guys at FMB were so kind to let us cut this tune. It’s always been a favourite of ours from their catalogue and we just wanted to throw our Sean Taylor Band spin on it.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
We’re beyond excited to be jumping on stage at the upcoming Manitoba Country Music Association (MCMA) awards show on November 4. It’s going to be a great night packed with fantastic performances. Along with our usual local winter gigs keeping us sharp, we’re looking forward to taking our show out to Houston’s in Brandon, Manitoba once again for Manitoba Ag Days January 16, and 17.
If given the chance, which Canadian artist would you love to work with in the future?
Oh wow, that’s a truly tough one. I know we’d love to work with the local boys Doc Walker. But there are so many legends it’s so hard to pick. I’d have to say growing up wanting to be Paul Brandt that would have to be my personal pick. His energy on stage and that incredible voice would be amazing to work with.
What’s your goal for 2024?
We’ve had an amazing year in 2023, it feels a bit selfish to want more. We really want to secure our place as a great live performance band, and we’re hoping to hit some of Canada’s amazing country music summer festivals to prove ourselves.
