Everybody’s Side Project Shares Debut After Thought EP feat. Resilient Single “Stink Piss”

Saskatoon-based artist Daryl Uhrin launched their solo pop punk project, Everybody’s Side Project, which was born out of significant personal loss. The untimely passing of loved ones led him to channel his grief into his music, reigniting his deep-rooted passion for songwriting and performance.

Despite typically critical audiences, Everybody’s Side Project has received ample support, which has encouraged him to pursue this endeavor wholeheartedly. Everybody’s Side Project is more than just a musical venture – it’s a testament to the transformative power of music, its ability to heal, and its exceptional capacity to turn adversity into opportunity.

“While “Stink Piss” narrates a story of betrayal, it’s also about strength and resilience. It’s about facing our demons, standing up to those who’ve wronged us, and finding our own path despite the challenges.” – Daryl Uhrin

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! My name is Daryl Uhrin, where does one start with an introduction; While I have no problem getting up on stage and performing in front of people, I am also an introverted recluse who rarely leaves the house, immersing myself in video games, anime, movies, and music due to my extreme social anxiety. I had the opportunity to start two bands, the first being Amid Morning Sky. Our goal was to create a safe place & bridge the gap between the local hardcore and punk scenes, and I can say we were successful at that. My second band, We Were Thane, had a goofier, pop-punky vibe (my natural habitat), and we had a blast performing cover songs like Ruby SoHo, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, and Take On Me.

While there were many memorable moments and highlights, one stands out. It began as a small idea to donate canned goods to a local food bank in Windsor, Ontario. However, it evolved into so much more: a 12-hour show offering free entry in exchange for two canned goods or a $12 donation. With acts like The Reason and us closing the event, we achieved more than we could have imagined.

We were able to provide support for three families during Christmas and filled a cube van with canned goods. Throughout the day, we estimate the event drew roughly 750 people. This memory will always remain dear to my heart.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

What can I say, this release was an unexpected one inspired by the unexpected grief of losing family members too soon. Grief is a strange thing, and there is only one song on the album about mourning. The process of grieving is not linear, it took me to a place of past experiences, specifically my teenage years reminiscing about lost friendships and relationships.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

We currently do not, but we may surprise you with an acoustic live event in the near future! Stay tuned to our socials 😊

If given the chance, which Canadian artist would you love to work with in the future?

I’ve recently discovered a Canadian band, Calling All Captains, that I’d love to collaborate with. Additionally, Chad VanGaalen, a personal hero of mine, is someone I’d relish having a conversation with about anything at all.

I could ramble on and on, but I’ll stop here…right after this list, that is. Lol!

What’s your goal for 2024?

I’m currently working on my second EP. Living up to the name of the band, Everybody’s Side Project, I plan to involve fans in a unique way: I’ll be asking them to submit lyrics for an incomplete song. It’s clear that social media plays a big role in today’s world, and I’m keen on growing my presence on these platforms. My ultimate goal? To collaborate with a member from any of the bands mentioned above on a song that’s a departure from their usual genre. I’m open to all possibilities!
